What do you usually do while listening to music?

For me, it's probably video games. I mute the game's music and put on my own.

I'll either be writing, exercising or I'll be going somewhere -- either by train/bus or by car. I don't just listen to music to listen to music.

Playing games or drawing, usually. I hardly ever just sit and listen to music on its own, whether it be slow or fast-paced.

I either play music that's sort of reflecting things in my life in that moment and... reflect, I guess on those moments, meditate on them, see what I can learn.
And if I'm not in a meditative mood, I air-guitar super hard. I just started learning guitar and I like to listen to music and think "someday I'm gonna be this good!"

Why are the options all depressing or neutral? Can't I listen to music and be grateful for the things in life?

I reject your false dichotomy! ...Or Octchotomy I guess? Since there're 8?

I'll listen to music doing pretty much everything where I'm not expected to be talking to anyone. Travelling, gaming (depending on the game), exercising (I actually find that one completely impossible without), sometimes just surfing the internet listlessly as an excuse to listen to music. The only things I do not listening to music are reading, socializing, working, watching TV and playing music.

Yeah, or also what am I supposed to pick when my answer can be expressed the closest by "EVERYTHING". Not quite that, really, but it's close enough - I mostly play music when doing...anything really, it's just in some occasions I don't listen to music. Say, if I watch a movie or play a game where the audio matters (like, for example - dialogues, or where the audio can give you clues). Essentially, if I need to concentrate on other sounds, I will most likely not listen to music. And sometimes I'd avoid it if it prevents me concentrating on a non-audio related task.

What a somewhat depressing poll, unless there was not enough space to add more options.

Mostly, I listen to music because I really enjoy it.
But specific things I end up doing: Work, drive, work out, improvise. I sometimes play along to the song with my guitar if I can, otherwise I just ad lib. badly.

Never listen to music when playing games though. Often because I want to enjoy the in-game soundtrack which already sets the mood of the game for me.

I am very into music, I am a musician myself and I work hard and obsessively on my compositions, adding lots of detail and spice...

But I never listen to music on its own without other things to stimulate my senses. It's weird, I can't just sit there and listen to something, I need to be browsing or on a bus ride somewhere or watching an accompanying video. It's actually quite bothersome to me as the music I listen to is often quite complex and needs active ears to listen to.

When I feel like it and I'm doing something that doesn't require me to pay attention to other sounds or talk to anyone. I almost always listen to music when drawing, cleaning or exercising. I often listen to music when working especially in a public place since it drowns out other noises. A lot of time I don't really process the music itself, it just stops everything else being distracting. I don't listen to music when walking home because I feel like I should be paying attention to what's going on around me and I don't just listen to music without doing something else.

Whether I listen to music while gaming depends on the game and whether the sound is a big part of it. If it's got a lot of dialogue, has great in game music or relies ambience then no. So games like Mass Effect, Transistor or Metro 2033 I don't listen to music while playing. Games more centred around just gameplay like like X-Com, Mount and Blade or any online multiplayer game I turn off their music and play my own. For some reason I seem to be much better at aiming when listening to music.

Usually while doing housework, drinking, partying or when I feel like a bit of a reminisce. Sometimes while wasting time on t'internet and on occasion I have a mix on the decks.

Drinking, doing homework, drawing, surfing the web, walking, sometimes a permutation of the above activities.

All of the above except drinking alcohol.

Just give me a little bit on that one though. It'll get it checked off soon.

Drawing.

I actually cant draw unless I'm listening to music. I just cant get in the mood for it, or I get too easily distracted by outside noise.

Some of these aren't mutually exclusive. I listen to music as I go between locations attempting to get my mind off of bullshit and how stressed I am.

Everything except watch TV or something else where the audio is kind of necessary.

I really like to write while listening to music, and most of the stuff I write technically has a soundtrack. Though what I write and the song may not exactly meld well.

But I do practically everything when music is playing.

Dance. Sometimes in my pajamas. Or sing along. I like tunes in the car, too. But I don't really sing along then. Music is also good when I'm reading fantasy novels.
