It's usually gameplay trailers that get me. I need to grasp the feeling of the the actual gameplay. A good example would be the Mirror's Edge trailer.

Wait Wait, I can't just leave this without saying something

None of the above.

I get hyped if its a game in a series I love, made by developers I trust.

Call of Duty: Whatever fuckery it is this time.
Don't like the series, or the game, or the devs [No strong feelings one way or the other to devs]. No hype.

Star Wars: Battlefront [III technically]
Love the series, hate the devs. No hype.

Witcher 3.
Love the series. Love the devs. Hype train boarded.

Nothing else will get me hyped, as everything else is just BS. If you want to get me hyped about a game, make a good game. By the time the demo's out its too late - I'm already either playing and enjoying the game, and I'm no longer going to get hyped. Vertical slices are BS and we all know it. Anything less is just useless.

The only exception to this is "Developer pitches" as you've put it, but detailed ones unless they're from a Dev I trust. This means I want explanations of the gameplay mechanics, and how they will work, what the goal is for them to feel like, and how it should all come together. I want a cohesive plan, explained, its intentions explained for when it inevitably fails to match them for whatever, and some assurance that they'll try to fix it if it doesn't match what they intended. Oh, and of course it has to actually be an interesting pitch.

Literally nothing gets me hyped about games anymore. I wait for someone else to buy them and if after playing them i like them then i will consider buying them. Gone are the days when a sequel to something i enjoyed would get my attention automatically because many good games have gone off the rails in recent years.

I'll echo the "I can't get hyped" feeling. A combination of being burned and the lack of sympathy and endlessly getting called entitled, and it's just easier to not gt my hopes up. Tell me what you're selling and its genre, then get it out. Months or years of empty promises and ambiguity is just tiring at this point.

Unfinished game footage for me, because it tells me whether or not they're actually doing the game according to the concept art/pitch or not. I've seen some incredible concept pitches that resulted in some incredibly mediocre things.

Either:

If the game released is the series I've played:
1. The most recent game's quality.

If it is new:
Gameplay video. NOT a gameplay trailer.
Those things are made of lies.(or it is safe to assume that it is)

Also, my definition of "hype" is that I will actually remember the name of the game, nothing more.
