My vehicle isn't so much a car as a lifestyle.philzibit said:Simple enough question. With me hating driving right now, with all the snow and ice that has found the Midwestern United States as of late, it made me wonder how other people get around and how they handle the bad weather. So, what is your main transportation source?
I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. It hasn't been doing very well with all the bad weather and since I live 10 minute from everything, it's made getting around a *****.
EDIT: Forgot to put a "Bus" option.

This baby has power windows, locks, steering, brake booster, rear defrosters, AM/FM/CB radio, cruise control, climate control, adjustable air ride suspension, brake booster, leather seats, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a 425 cui (7.0L) vertically mounted V8, Front wheel drive 3 speed auto transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, and all of these things are factory options that all work.
I used to have a 1990 with the V-8. That truck was great, until the motor blew on me, but I think the guy who sold it to me knew it was going bad. Bastard.TestECull said:I drive a beat to hell $500 1985 Ford F150 with 275,000 miles on it. It's packing an inline six in the front, an overdrive four-speed manual in the middle, and rear wheel drive at the back.
Why do I have such a beat up old piece of junk? It's simple. 1: It's as reliable as time itself. It's got over a quarter million on the clock, yet the engine runs better than those half it's age! 2: When I wrecked the car I had before, it was all my parents could afford to get me. 3: I just plain like the poor old thing. And finally, 4: It's got a manual transmission.
My Deville needed a new headgasket, so I put a new motor in instead. It ended up being cheaper. It runs great now, despite the intermittent "Service Engine Soon" light. I get about 25 miles per gallon around town, 32 on the freeway, and average around 8 idling down to work and back up again every day (My theory is that she hates the cold as much as I do). I am about $2200 into repairs, with a few thousand to go before she is factory stock again (Mostly suspension work). But I figure I can put over a million miles on her easily, since it is a car I have dreamed of owning since i was 14...TestECull said:Haha, my parents bought an '84 F250 with a six. I could tell on the test drive it had months to live because it overheated and had no oil pressure. Sho 'nuff, it just randomly decided it didn't want to have compression anymore after two months.Spade Lead said:I used to have a 1990 with the V-8. My '85 is a good one though. I bought it with just under 200 on it. I had to do a head gasket at 265, a clutch a few hundred after that, a carb, and a fuel pump. That sums up the major work I've had to do to the drivetrain, and none of the failures caused it to actually die.
