I am curious to know which finger people use on their mouse's scroll wheel when gaming.

I have always used my (right) index finger for both the left mouse button and the scroll wheel, and my middle finger on the right mouse button. This contrasts with what I used to do in the days of three-button gaming mice (before mouse wheels were common) when the obvious way to hold the mouse is with one finger on each button.

I expect it would be quicker and more effective to use my middle finger for the scroll wheel and my ring finger for the RMB, as I did in the 3-button mouse days. This is especially so since some new gaming mice have extra buttons to the left of the LMB for the index finger, giving that finger a lot to do. However, many years' habit means it now just feels wrong.

So, what fingers do you use on your buttons and wheels?

I'm right handed. Thumb goes on the side button and I use my index finger to scroll&left click while my middle finger is to right click.

Right handed. Obviously, I use my index finger for LMB and I use my middle finger for both scrolling and RMB. I know I really should use my ring finger for the RMB, but much like ESDF, that's a good habit I simply never picked up.

I'm left handed but use my right hand on the mouse, with index on LMB and scroll. I think I'm fairly ambidextrous except for pens and spoons.

Usually the Index finger of my right hand, though sometimes I do find myself using my middle finger.

I use my middle finger so that I'm constantly flipping the gods the finger I can comfortably rest my index finger on the left mouse button and the other one that isn't my pinky on the right mouse button. It did all feel strange for the first few months, but now it's just the way things are done and I hardly spare it much thought. My thumb is in place to use the side buttons, though I rarely do.

My scroll wheel is broken, and it only works if you push it to the right ever so slightly. Therefore, each and everyone of my friends who try to use it fail, and I am forced to do it with my index finger. But 've been doing it for so long that I've grown accustomed to it, and now it's second nature.

This for me.
I write and play guitar left-handed but I use my right for pretty much everything else, I can't even use left-handed scissors.

I'm like the first poster(well, and so many others). Right handed, using my thumb for the side buttons, index finger for LMB/scroll and middle finger for the RMB. Using the middle finger for scrolling forces me to move my entire hand, which is impractical.

Righty and my index finger does double-duty on left and scroll. It may change if I find sufficient reason to pick up some sort of Razer.

Same here, except I do not know how to play a guitar. Computer mouse, controllers and scissors in tradtional right-handed configuration. Everything else, left handed.

A bit annoying since I get poor APM by using my secondary hand for the mouse. I am having a fair bit of problem keeping up in games requiring quick and twitchy controls.

I'll use either hand, index finger always get the most work though

Left handing- middle finger LMB, index scroll and RMB. fingers rest on LMB and scroll
Right handing -index scroll and LMB, middle finger RMB. fingers rest on LMB and RMB

I guessing this would change if I was using a different style of mouse as not all of them are well suited to be used ambidextrously.

I'm left handed but use the mouse in the right hand, and I can swap between using index finger or middle finger for the scrollwheel, but mostly use index finger.

I use either hand to control the mouse, and will always use my middle finger for the scroll wheel, it feels strange to use another finger.

Right handed: index finger on left click and scroll wheel and middle finger on rclick.

It's the easiest for me to scroll is using my index finger.

Right-handed, all of the above (so, other). My index finger operates the LMB and occasionally the wheel, my middle finger operates the RMB some of the time, middle-click whenever its necessary and scroll wheel most of the time, my ring finger usually guides mouse movement opposite my thumb, but sometimes fills in on the RMB... while my pinkie finger grips the edge of the mouse in the ring finger's place.

I never really understood how ESDF was in anyway better than WASD, with the exception of wow, you don't need more keys than WASD can reach and WoW hotkeys are cirvemvented by CTRL/Shift, certainly not in FPS, RTS have a few more buttons to push, but you don't need to be moving anyone or stretching your keyboard hand for those. Even the "natural position for typing" isn't really a strong point as I never have any issues reaching any keys, and the true position a typist learns is ASDF.

This triple finger mouse thing feels like something I could get used to though, not heard of the idea before now.
