Funny enough if I was asked to pick a specific sub-genre that is my favorite it would be stealth games, so not even under the RPG umbrella.

Roleplaying games, or games with sufficient role playing elements in almost any genre. Character and plot development being the key points of interest.
Action/ adventure.
Lots of rpgs, platformers, and shooters fall into this category, not all though. It has to be a certain kind of rpg, platformer, or shooter (or even puzzler, see: portal/portal 2) to be considered "my favorite kind of game".

Puzzle-Platformers, definitely. Perfect combination of skill and intellegence. Although only when done well, which is almost never. So I often have to settle for regular platformers. But you know the kind of things I'm talking about. Portal, Braid, Time Fcuk is the best flash game I've ever played. And man, can I not wait until Limbo is out for the PC.
I tend to move around. Once I get bored of one genre I find a new one to entertain me. Currently I'm on strategy (RTS and turn-based). But it's hard to say how long that will last. Getting a bunch of Total War games on Steam for cheap will probably burn me out on the genre pretty quick.
Im an RTS fan till the end. Nothing more satisfying than to out maneurver an opponent. Also, seeing all of his little dudes burn, because they were inferior to my larger, different colored dudes.
Wow, a tough question... The only genres I don't like are fighting and racing, everything else I adore. I also like it when such genres end up getting mixed, say a shooter sandbox with RPG elements (i.e. Boarderlands) or a puzzle adventure (i.e Portal).
A very difficult decision indeed, especially since my moods tend to shift from one genre to another from time-to-time. Also, it can be subjective considering that our experiences are based on games that may or may not rightly represent the genre. So I think I'll go with RPG on account that Role-playing games tend to have more of a fantasy theme usually related to magic and such, can't go wrong with that...

Tactical Espionage Action is my favorite, followed by the RPG, then Adventure/Action-Adventure. Top 3 right there

Definitely RPG's. I like every genre of game, though I don't play a lot of fighters, racers, and sports games. However, despite enjoying all genres, RPG's are definitely my favourite, and the only genre where quality never seems to be an issue. If you have a good RPG then it will be one of my favourite games of all time, and if you have a bad RPG then I usually don't seem to care, they all have their good qualities and I find it impossible to dislike almost any RPG.
As a side note, I tend to include story driven games into the genre of RPG. Don't know why I do that, I guess it's just because most RPG's are story driven.
