Don't do the Lightning Bolt video :(

We don't show the Angry German for Gamers, do we?

LARP IS a competitive sport. I've got a few prizes for it in my time.

(As for judging it, it's done like the Oscars - on Achievement and Support - rather than damage output)

This is the video that shows it in a positive light

Hitting people with foam swords for money? Hells yeah. I'd probably get kicked out for unnecessary roughness though...

I'll add something else to what I said: what makes LARP fun isn't how many people you killed, it's the 'little moments'. You know the stories you try to tell down the pub or at the bar, that are blindingly hilarious to those who were there, but just don't have the same magic when you re-tell them to strangers? Like the werewolf who was stopped mid-rampage by a bearded dwarf woman trying to sell him stuff, or the time we were surrounded by hissing monsters that hated light, and our only torch went out in the middle of a pitch black forest two miles from camp, or the three thieving leprechauns who robbed everyone blind and got caught because they were compelled to do the Riverdance whenever they crossed a bridge...

It isn't just content and mechanics you'd miss out on, it's the heart and soul. Also, it REALLY isn't a spectator sport; there's a pretty gigantic gulf between watching and being there.

I'm trying not to be an indignant fan boy (much), :p but this thread is a great example of why I've bought a mini video camera so I can do some first person filming next year; if you aren't there then LARP looks really, really terrible, and there's next to no footage that gives a good picture of what it's actually like!
