we all know that nintendo has milked and milked the mario franchise and it pisses me off why because they take all the best talent and all they make is the same game ever couple of years but have you ever asked yourslef what would the world be like if mario just stopped.

the reason I pick mario for this is beacause nothing is equal to mario he was and still is a gaming icon and hes been around forever also not one protaginist has ever made or appeared in or had colleauges in as much as mario has the guy has over 100 games spanning over 31 years (if wikipedia is to beleived) based on him or featuring him he had 2 TV shows for gods sake
those of you who wanted a list
mario stand alone titles 8
Dr. mario titls 4
mario kart 8
mario party 10
mario and luigi series 3
sports games 16 (not counting Golf Famicom Grand Prix NES Open Tournament Golf) but they don't contain mario in the title
othere 6 that mario in the title
I havent put up even half the stuff i have found
so the next time you think of people trolling on mario for realeasing the same game each year think to yourself 31 years(and counting) over 100 games(and counting)

Yes, Mario games have declined somewhat in quality, but that is mostly true of all of the connected games, what I pathetically call the "main franchise" i.e 64, Sunshine, Galaxy and Galaxy 2, and those that came before (you all know which ones), have not exactly being sliding downhill that badly, and I do feel that Nintendo without Mario just wouldn't feel right, it is their thing, and why not stick to it.

If Mario dies, Nintendo dies with him. And all we have to look forward to are "mature" games and FPS games with all the variations of brown.

Nothing would really be different, but that is unlikely to happen, after all the Super Mario games have managed to survive for 26 years as Nintendo's main franchise.

The only chance that would happen is when Nintendo also stop as well and I don't think Nintendo won't stop anytime soon.

Eh? They are no more the "same game" than every newest COD, Halo, GTA, TES, Fallout, Fable etc is the "same game". Evidently all games of a series are going to be similar to a degree, or else there would be no point being a part of that series.

He'll never stop. the day they stop making mario games is the day Final Fantasy reaches it's final installment.

Absolutely nothing? Mario was very relevant...... in 1987. Nowadays he's just your average cash cow, so killing it would do little more than shake up a few nostalgia trees.

But who are we kidding, they'll never kill Mario. EVER. The brand recognition on that one is absolutely insane. They don't even need to market Mario games anymore... Nintendo will die long before Mario ever does.

Again, I have to ask why Nintendo is singled out for this. Why not Bungie, Rock Star, Activision, EA, MTV Games, et al? Has Halo really changed all that much, or the Modern Warfare games, or the Rock Band games?

I'd recommend you play Sonic Colors. Just beat it yesterday. Fantastic game, the only 3D Sonic that has truly impressed me.

The Mario Galaxies games are by far the greatest platformers I've ever played. They're brilliant. Every level is like a playground of ideas. There really haven't been many 3D iterations of Mario (4 now?) on home consoles so I don't see why people are so upset that these games exist. I'm going to guess that you're not a Wii owner. Then why make such a thread?

I can't wait to play the next Mario game on the Wii's successor.

Well, I don't know, I might miss it. I mean, it's just part of the world. Mario is going to be there. But on the other hand, I'm getting tired of Nintendo games, most of the games I've even looked at recently didn't have anything new or innovative to them. This isn't so bad usually, but Nintendo needs at least a little bit of innovation.

It would be world without Nintendo. Why?

Nintendo will never stop making Mario. The only thing that would stop mario is if Nintedo ceases to exist.

I doubt anything would really happen. I mean, it isn't really contributing much more to the medium in terms of innovation like it used to. However, nintendo are never going to stop making it, simply because it's still the biggest selling franchise in the game market. Super Mario Brothers Wii sold 21 million copies and that's relatively recent, and out of the top 15 highest selling games(according to VGchartz), 6 of them are Mario(and just for curiosity's sake, out of the top 20 highest selling games, 19 are Nintendo, the other is San Andreas).

You can't blame Nintendo for milking the series when it sells so much. They are a business after all, and it's not like nobody enjoys them. Lots of people enjoy them. Lots of companies reuse the same formula over and over again and some do it worse than Nintendo... I'm looking at you EA Sports. In a world full of gritty shooters and dark fantasy, I don't mind a bit of mario to brighten my day.
