I played clarinet for 4 years before I quite the band and I was decent. Always first chair. I even got to march in a parade in Disney's MGM Studios with our highschool. Sometimes, I wonder if I could still played it. I had a bunch of star wars sheet music I would play and drive my mother crazy with. Yeah. Long live woodwinds!

In order of the time I learned them: Guitar, Piano, Mandolin
In order of proficiency: Guitar, Mandolin, Piano (I can't get into piano. It's not...physical enough. Or something)

What is this, no trombone option? We have to slide under "other"? I am insulted at this lack of appreciation for the finest instrument in existence.

The first instrument I played was called a clapper, essentially two bits of wood attached by string where the sound is made by shaking the wood so that the two bits clap together. -sigh- damn you primary school music classes!

I play the guitar now and thinking about learning to play the harmonica.

I play the drums and the guitar but I did have a spell where I had to play the recorder in elementary school and god was I terrible at it. I also did vocals for awhile but my voice is a little to high pitched for me to sing but I usually growl and my voice can strangely get pretty deep if I growl.

Well, technically the recorder was the first instrument that I PLAYED but it doesn't really require too much LEARNING. More just looking at where your Elementary school music teacher has their fingers when they are playing along...

As far as instruments I play that I had a choice in, guitar was my first. Followed by piano, bass, mandolin, a disastrous few months of alto sax and trombone, African percussion, snare drum, and timpani. Aside from guitar (which is still my main instrument), I've been playing piano, bass, and drums quite a bit recently.

First instrument was keyboard. We had one at home which belonged to my father, and I thought it was fun to "play" on it, so my mom let me get lessons in it. I never got any good though, since I expected immediate results without practise or effort(some things never change!) so I quit a few years later.

Have since then taught myself to play guitar, bass and song. Adequate at best since I still can't be arsed to practise.

I'm a whistle player! I play both the tin whistle and the low whistle, mostly Scottish and Irish traditional music. (For what it's worth, although I do listen to trad and folk I mostly like alternative / indie rock and electronica, but the whistle is just so much fun to play!)

I played the recorder and clarinet in elementary school. In middle school I switched to the Bass Clarinet, and never left it.

I had to be literally kicked in the butt through the door to my first piano lesson (i.e. I was hanging onto the doorframe like a cat or something), but ten years later, I LOVE it. As soon as I stopped taking lessons, I realized I couldn't just stop practising, and now I do lots of little things just for fun (Chopin's Fantasie-Impromptu ftw)... Also, I got a job accompanying people in the springtime, so score for Meaningful Employment! \o/

Hm... The very first I ever played was the something called bell stick or "jingle stick." Then the recorder, then the trombone. But you know what? Those are all things I had to take in school.

The very first instrument I played n my own accord was the flute.

Did recorder in primary school, of course, just like nearly everyone else in this country. Did trumpet for a few years, then stopped because I just wasn't enjoying it. I'd like to learn violin or cello, but that seems like a hell of a lot of expense to go to for a whim.
