It really varies quite a lot depending on age, maturity, school, the day's events and the next day's events. If its has been a particularly eventful day, earlier bedtimes are good. If it was a really laid back slow day, sometimes staying up a bit later is good.

As for your sister I really can't say. Sometimes I stay up until 1 or 2 in the morning even on school nights when I have to be up by 6:30; sometimes I'm in bed by about 9:30 or 10. It all depends on how well you can function on lower levels of sleep.

To be honest I think that in general it is a bit ridiculous to stay up past 11 on a school night. I know what I'm like when I don't have much sleep. Sometimes I just get caught up in doing something that I don't even realize how late its gotten.
Well, school's out for the summer now, which is half the problem. As for the maturity, she's about the maturity level of a seven year old, and she falls asleep on the couch around 9:00, then screams and makes a fuss that she doesn't need] a bedtime.
Well, being that it is summer I would say to cut her some slack. Hell, I stayed up well past midnight on most nights when I was younger than her. I understand where you are coming from in this; I have a younger brother who is only 12 who likes to stay up until 11 or 12 at night. He can handle it though. I only know about your sister's ability to handle staying up from what I've heard from you.

From what you're saying she isn't really up to it but then again your views are more than a little biased, being that you are an older sibling. Trust me, I know the feeling. Does she do anything in particular at night that you want her to go to bed early other than just not having to deal with her?
It's not having to deal with her at night that the problem; its dealing with her the next day. She becomes...unhinged when she doesn't get enough sleep. I mean, even when she goes to bed when she's supposed to, she stays up texting.

14 year olds are about to become freshmen, right? I'd say 11 at the latest on school nights, but whenever on the weekends. It'll be hard to enforce regardless. In high school, I didn't have a bedtime, but I was always so desperate to go to sleep by the time my homework was finished that it didn't matter.

It varies person to person, back when I was in high school I had total functionality on 4-6 hours of sleep so I was typically asleep around 1-3am. Now I just go to bed when my body tells me it's tired.

As long as she gets the sleep she needs, then any bedtime can be considered to be reasonable. I, for example don't have a set time. I just go to sleep whenever. But I do go to bed early if I have to be up early. Like on Mondays for my chemistry lab at 7 am.

I'm 16 and I try my best to get in bed at around 10:00 on school nights. So, I'd say that 9:30 or 10:00 would be reasonable for her.

I would say 11, but I'd be a hypocrite seeing as I sleep at midnight. I'd still say 11's pretty reasonable. But, when you're older, you should be able to decide for yourself/sleep at different times.

6:00pm.

And remember: Early to bed, early to rise (makes a man girl healthy, wealthy and wise!)
I think it goes more like "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy and socially dead."

Or, as Colbert put it,
Early to bed and early to rise makes you a loser. Let's party all night long. This Is the Colbert Report!

Well I'm 14 years old and during the school week I go to bed around 9:30 and wake up at around 6:30 the following day.

On weekends I get to bed a little later and consequenty wake up a little later so to me the weeknight sleep regime seems reasonable as I really do have to be awake by 6:30 so I guess it just boils down to how much sleep you need for your activities and what time you need to get up for your routine.

At that age I had to go to bed at 9:00. I feel no pity for her. 12:00 is way way too late for her. Now days I got to bed around 1 am or 2. I used to not fall asleep while still in high school until 12 and I was tired as hell the next day.

When you are younger, I would really recommend getting more than the bare minimum on sleep. Get her to bed at 10. Going off of bare minimum isn't helping anyone, least of all herself.
I agree. Also lack of sleep kind of Stacks on you making you less and less productive as time passes.

For school nights, I'm in bed by 11.
I usually watch T.V. until 12.

So yes, 12 is reasonable.
