So my friends, as we know Doom is one of the oldest franchise that is still going on. each and every game evolved from previous games. and this is one of those only franchise that never ever had a bad game before. so lets talk about it

Doom 1

Doom 2

Doom 3

Doom (reboot)

In my 20 years of gaming experience. I have never seen any franchise that evolved this much without having a single bad, dissapointing game. when it comes to atmosphere and longeviety and experience i consider Doom 3 the best. when it comes to a game that define modern shooter in the vien of old school i consider Doom reboot is best. when it comes the game that create and revolutionaize FPS genre I consider first 2 best. as they are the reason why FPS exist today. back in days FPS were called Doom clones

So my friends, which Doom from 4 Excellent, Incredible, masterpieces, universal, Epic games you consider best?

So...where's Doom 64, Final Doom, and the Doom mobile games? ;p

Well, it doesn't matter I guess, since I've only played Doom 1-3, plus The Lost Mission, if we're counting that as separate. So, as far as personal preference goes, for me it's D3>D1>D2. Which funnily enough is my order of preference from the Diablo games as well. 0_0

Well, no doubt I've stirred up enough demons with such blasphemy, so I'm off to Tei Tenga. ^_^

Doom 2, because it has most of my favorite classic levels. Also, Super Shotgun. So satisfying.

. Original Doom rates second, because no Super Shotgun. Doom 64 comes in third thanks to some excellent level design and atmosphere, only hampered by the more awkward N64 control (when compared to keyboard) Doom 4 could have beaten it, if only its combat encounters were more varied and the level design more finely tuned. Doom 3 is a bit the odd one out and comes in last, because its slower, more cramped gameplay is a little meh to me.

Everybody knows Doom RPG for mobile [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_RPG] is the best of the series.

It's better because it has RPG elements. That's just science.

Curious, but how is it? I only know Doom RPG 2 have a very....unique ending I must. say the least.

OP: Doom 2 all the way. Always a classic and many awesome moments with its unique encounters.

It's difficult to choose, but on pure gameplay quality objectively the more evolved reboot Doom is better. The multiplayer is total ass, but there's nothing you can do about that.

I'd say Doom 3 is the weakest, but that's not saying much because it was still pretty good. Blasting imps in the face with plasma and watching their ragdoll fly doesn't really get old. The shotgun is cancer in cannon form though. Fuck that shotgun. Fuck it straight to hell.

I like how close the poll is. Just goes to show how good the series as a whole is.

Original Doom

I like it more than Doom 2 because I like the setting more, and I'm not terribly fond of some of the enemy types in Doom 2, either. Both are in the all-time greats, though.

2016 Doom is fun, but I got tired of it before beating it.

Doom 3... I only played a bit, so I can't really say.

I haven't played ZCC, but of this first three, my vote goes to DOOM 2. The first game was bound to a more standard narrative, and the level design reflected that. 2 was much more open and creative; I don't know if I'd've liked it as much if I hadn't played the first game, though. Arch-viles were annoying as hell, but their relative rarity made them an interesting and difficult thing, rather than a constant nuisance. DOOM 3 wasn't a bad game, but it didn't feel like a DOOM game; it felt more like Dead Space -1 (in retrospect, obviously).

Officially, it is actually Doom 4. And although I have played the three that came before, number four is both a return to form and an update to current technology, lovingly coated in flesh and bone, and filled with sweet sweet demon's blood. I'm always going to love the classics, but those who love the classics also made Doom 4.

If I really had to choose, probably the original Doom as I have always preferred it's levels to 2, although if you do get one Doom 2 is the one to get with it's ridiculous mod and map support. 22 years of modding has created a near infinite amount of fantastic content for it.

Doom 4 is the best for me too. The thing about Doom 3 is that it's a weaker version of Doom 64, just better lighting and graphics. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I'd still play Doom 3 over any COD or Battlefield any day of the week.

The original Doom, assuming that using the original WAD with Brutal Doom counts (or uh, HDoom, coughcough). The music is iconic, the levels are memorable, and the whole thing is just put together so well. Doom 2 is solid, but loses out a tiny bit from the slightly more boring level designs (those ugly walls that look like faux wood panel), and the complete pain in the ass chaingun guys. And MAP11. Holy shit that was a brutal one.

I also vote for Doom 4.

The first wave of Doom games were fun as balls when I was a kid, but going back and playing them now is difficult due to the disparity in technology. It's like trying to read Chaucer.

Doom 3 was a competent but ill-advised shift into survival horror. It wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't the right move, stylistically. Doom 4 takes the franchise back to its roots, but with modern graphics and mechanics; it's like being a child again, only now you're an adult and can properly appreciate it. The plot is also surprisingly clever considering it has such a dumb premise, with a lot of well-executed show-don't-tell storytelling and characterisation. Plus it's just fun.

It's amazing how readily I will accept incredibly dumb ideas such as "well, we were mining Hell for its Hell-energy" if the game itself just doesn't care about it. I feel that if the game tried to play that stuff seriously like Doom 3 tried to, I'd call bullshit, but as far as Doom 4 is concerned, there's demons that need shooting and you're asking stupid questions.

If I had to choose, I'd choose Doom 2. But I don't. I'll gladly play any four of them any day.

Well, lets put it this way.

Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 are both stil installed, while Doom 4 is collecting dust, kind of forgotten that I own it.
Doom 3 I don't like, but I own RoE for Xbox and like that one.

Ultimate Doom gets my vote, Doom II being a very close second. Later titles just simply pale in comparison.

I'm a DOOM newbie (the originals gave me motion sickness, only started playing them proper last year after learning about source ports), so the following impressions aren't influenced by nostalgia.

It all depends if we're talking about vanilla or modded. Vanilla is toss-up between DOOM and DOOM 2016 for me. The original has solid (if labyrinthine) level design, enemies that are fun to fight and a bit more subdued setting than its successor. DOOM 2 has its moments, but it suffers from sloppier levels. Some of them feel downright amateur with their penchant to throw you in boxy rooms filled with one type of enemy. Moreover, some of the new enemies are downright frustrating to fight. Archviles can go fuck a cactus.

Never played DOOM 64 or DOOM 3, so I can't really comment on them. However, I think I can confidently say I wouldn't like the latter, what with my dislike of jumpscares.

DOOM 2016 is, to borrow a term from Lazy Game Reviews, "Zeitgeist DOOM." It's not so much a reboot or homage as it is a reflection of how today's popular culture remembers the franchise. It's campy, bombastic, irreverent and ludicrously violent...and I love how it doesn't even try to hide it. I haven't felt this awash in stupid, testosterone-fueled badassery since I was curbstomping Orks in Space Marine.

If we throw mods into the picture, DOOM 2 wins hands-down. The amount and quality of content the modding community has churned out over the years is nothing short of staggering, easily adding hundreds, if not thousands of hours to the game's replay factor. While DOOM 2016's Snapmap has more features than I thought it would, it can't possibly hope to compete with DOOM 2's advantages of an open source code and decades of experience from a passionate fan base.
