I don't think it's fair to make a best FPS franchise thread and have a poll. Aren't there many?

I would still pick Half Life anyway. The original game is still the greatest game to me, and Half Life 2 is high quality too.

Half Life, Wolfenstein and Doom were where I cut my teeth, and I'll always love them, but the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series is where I live.

I was never interested in those ancient shooters, though. I'd love this IP to be revived, the way you describe it.
bungie will ruined it. they will turn it into Halo or destiny.

Turning Marathon into Halo would hardly be a bad thing, not to mention that Halo is already regarded as its spiritual successor regardless and is wearing its influences on its sleeve.

On the subject of Marathon, I'd be fully onboard for a remake. While Marathon has a pretty decent story, it's hamstrung by its manner of delivery (text. Lots of text).

I actually really like the written terminals. They have a certain atmosphere and style with the graphical glitches, system error datadumps, half-translated language and accompanying slides that would be lost if they were voiced or cutscenes. You can take your time and pick through them. Obviously not a particularly suitable delivery method for a modern remake, though. I'm not entirely sure I'd want to see a remake anyway. The thing I value most about Marathon is the atmosphere, and that's such an ephemeral and hard to capture quality (especially when half the team that worked on Marathon are no longer around Bungie). But who knows?

That sounds really awesome. I was never interested in those ancient shooters, though. I'd love this IP to be revived, the way you describe it.
I'm glad I could get you interested :)

No love for Serious Sam? Nothing but guns, a stupid T-Shirt, and thousands of dudes to murder.

Tricky question. In terms of delivering consistently decent-to-fantastic campaigns over the past decade, Call of Duty has a big advantage. But... Battlefield has given us some really, really outstanding campaigns. Battlefield 3 was BLACK but better, Battlefield 4 was a superb campaign, and Hardline was the best FPS of 2015. And of course Bad Company 2 had its moments. They're similar to CoD, but with their own twist and sense of design innovation.

I don't see System Shock 2, Unreal Tournament, or Wolfenstein on that list. That's what I'd vote for.
