With GTA V coming up, I thought I'd ask the age old question. Again.
What is the best GTA game?

Here's the twist. You can't answer San Andreas. I know there will be people who might prefer the other games, but just about everyone I've seen talk about San Andreas has called it the best. By taking it out, maybe we'll get a more varied answer. Also, GTA V isn't on this list, since it's not out yet.

So, except SA, which one is your favorite?

With San Andreas out of the equation, that only leaves me with the first three games. I did play Vice City, but the setting bored me. So, out of those three, I'd probably take GTA 2. Very nostalgic game for me, played it and laughed at it a lot when I was really young. GTA III is pretty good too, but GTA 2 just had charm man. And the satisfying splat when you run over pedestrians... ahh :D

EDIT: OH! And the absolute fucking crazy radio stations. I remember that one that had this crazy Asian woman screaming around, and then this real goofy music would kick in. Ah, GTA 2. I should play that again soon. What a relaxing game.

Why can't I pick the whole GTA IV + its other two storylines? Despite what everyone seems to think of it I really liked GTA IV and especially how the Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony had so many crossovers with the main story I didn't even realize until I played all of them.

The only reason I did that was because the other two storylines could be considered separate games in their own right.

Vice City. Good god, I had so much fun with it. I was like BOATS! BIKES! PROPERTY! STRIPPERS! VOICED PROTAGONIST! HELICOPTERS! PLANES!

It was so awesome at the time. And I still like to replay it from time to time

...Expect the fact that Gay Tony and Johnny (at the very least) were disgracefully shone horned into GTA IV...Hey look, you want to know what happened to johnny? Tough luck, buy lost and the damned and find out yourself because we're going to drop that sub-plot.

OT:Vice City.

It has it's own unique style despite it being a rip-off. Also, it almost reached to GTA 2 level of wackyness.

"The men folk find their women scary, because they are so big and hairy..."

GTA 1 was cool but the zany story and missions in 2 make it an absolute classic...elvis has left the building...

I've heard a lot of criticisms aimed at Grand Theft Auto before, but never quite that... a rip-off of what, exactly? Grand Theft Auto III was really the only other thing like it at the time, and you can't really call a game a rip-off of itself...

Anyway.

I've only ever actually played San Andreas, Vice City, and a tiny bit of IV, so as a person who isn't really a fan of Grand Theft Auto it seems my choice has been made for me already.

I think he's talking about how the story was a parody of several crime films.
Key word being PARODY
