This might have made a good No Right Answer but I doubt it would ever happen so I'm asking you! There's a huge list of games so I will have to have to be selective since there's only 8 options, so be gentle if I don't include your favorite.

I would go for either Judgment Rites or Bridge Commander, or preferably both. The former just edges out Final Unity for personal favorite and richest portrayal of the Star Trek universe, and Bridge Commander was by far the best representation of the kind of slow, tactical combat you see in the TV show and movies - BC actually gave me a huge appreciation of the strategic depth of ST combat which isn't always used to full potential in the show. The Voyager game Elite Force was pretty great which was really surprising for an FPS, and it remains one of the most enjoyable shooters I've played. It's a pity DS9 never really got a decent game under its name, only a bunch of middlingly average ones.

As for worst, well there are plenty I haven't played especially ones from the 80s but I thought Bethesda's Star Trek: Legacy was pretty awful. Star Trek: Borg would have pretty much sucked without de Lancie, although the idea was good it was just frustrating and annoying gameplay-wise.

Anyway, over to you. Make it so!

Edit: Since the poll options are limited, I have added a full list of ST games on a user's suggestion.

I loved me some Starfleet Command! Really filled the void from college/high-school games of Starfleet Battles. I've still got the disks - reading this thread makes me want to get Dos-Box (or some such) and play through those games again.

Absurdly, I haven't played any of the Starfleet Command games. Which one would you recommend? Should I just go straight for 3 or is the original the best?

Nothing absurd about it, they're all pretty long in the tooth. I liked the original best - although they were all solid games. Surprisingly, it looks like you can snag a copy over at Amazon. [http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Starfleet-Command-Pc/dp/B00002EPYY]

Starfleet Command. They were good fun, and easy to understand and get into. I was playing these games when I was around 7 and having a blast with them

No Star Trek Online? Son I am disspoint

But really Star Trek Online is probably the best Star Trek game, if only because it covers everything.

The old adventure games by Interplay. Those games, imo, understood what Star Trek was about. It was too bad that Secret of Vulcan Fury was cancelled.

Bridge Commander. The amount of mods for that game is astounding. I've spent hours recreating battles in that game from the show for fun. Armada and its sequel were a close second though.

A Final Unity was great, Starfleet Command was also great.

EVERYTHING else on that list was absolutely terrible.

3 should run on 64/32 bit computers no problem without an emulator so it's not a bad place to start as there is no interconnected story.

It is a fun little game I just don't recommend flying a cube as its the only ship with collision and the way the AI operates your liable to end up with a half/dead cube and a dead sphere on your team.

Elite Force, since it's the only one I've ever played. I do remember my Dad playing a third-person one though, as Picard (I think). All I remember of it is him walking about a bit and having to do these slide-puzzles. Anyone got a name?

You're kidding, right? Judgment Rites and Bridge Commander are awful?

what? no star trek: borg nor star trek klingon?
I couldn't include everything. If I had two more poll options I would have put those two. And also Hidden Evil.

It was either Klingon or Klingon Honor Guard, and that one already has votes so someone clearly likes it.

I forget the title of it but I have to pick the only game that ever let me nail Q right in the omnipotence.

Elite Force.

It was so epic, you got to walk around on classic era ships, Klingon ships, strange alien ships, Borg ships. You got cool experimental weapons, there was stealth and action and platforming and you got to walk around on the Voyager. It wasn't just the best Star Trek game ever made, it was one of the finest shooters ever made.

I kind of liked "Star Trek: Legacy" in that 'not really part of the universe, but kind of fun 3rd person shooter' sort of way.

It was flawed as hell, but I don't regret the 20USD I dropped.
