Also architecture, painting, debating, *insert almost anything related to culture/arts*, but that's a moot point since they are the ancestors of our(western) civilisation.Layz92 said:The greeks and romans did more for writing that he ever did.
Well you are basing your opinion one one book. That's like basing all of Steven Spielberg's films having only watched War of the Worlds.interspark said:when i was a kid id sit in class blocking out the noise of the teacher droning on about macbeth, subtly dreading the aweful truth that, statistically speaking, one day id probably turn into a boring sod like "them" and begin to actually like this crap too!
although here i am, approaching my 18th birthday and it seems i worried for nothing, i still think its all crap and shakespear is still at the top of my "people to slap if i ever go back in time" list, but what about all the other escapist users? what do you think of shakespear's works?
I find that "best" is a subjective term. They are his most famous and in my opionion, his best. But that's all it is, my opinion. You may have different views to mine but I rather like those twoWolfThomas said:Most famous works, not necessarily best. Romeo and Juliet was one of his earliest, considered unpolished compared to some of his later works.fishman279 said:The stories... Well Romeo And Juliet and Macbeth are his best works but apart from that I don't really enjoy them.
I think they're boring as hell to read, but a lot of fun to watch (provided the actors know what they're doing--it can be painful to watch if the actors don't know what they're saying). Plays are meant to be watched, not read, and you miss a lot of the humor if you're just reading.interspark said:what do you think of shakespear's works?
I think that's the point. The "good guys" are actually the villains, who lie and cheat to get out of keeping their promises (because to them Shylock is just "the Jew," and so it doesn't matter if they cheat him). The ending is just them continuing to act like lying, cheating, bigoted jerks (which is not Deus Ex Machina, since this is set up earlier in the play). You're supposed to leave the play thinking it was a cop-out, because it was. That same year we had to read the Merchant of Venice. The ending has always pissed me off it just feels like such a cop out.
It saved me typing that out. Well done.CJ1145 said:Your lack of grammar, good sir, combined with your frequent misspellings and deduced lack of intelligence, has led me to believe that you are a ninny! A twit! ive been able to understand shakespeare since i was like, 8U71L7Y_F0RMUL4 said:Well, his plays are pretty good. Although the writing is a ***** to understand sometimes, but I hated it as well and im glad that I never have to do any work on him, or his plays ever again.
Also you spelt Shakespeare wrong.
You obviously haven't read the sauce. For example, in Romeo & Juliet, the families don't discover their love until after both are dead. This realization actually ends the feud, thus crafting a bittersweet ending.tmdude said:he sucks to be quite frank every single one of his plays don't really make a lot of sense and some of the stuff that happens in said plays make no fricking sense
Ex 1: Romeo and Juliet see each other 1 i repeat 1 time and suddenly they are willing to die for each other and cause a massive war of families
Ex 2: Macbeth, the instant he gets pat on the back from the king, he starts thinking on how to kill him and take the throne for himself
Ex 3: Both of these dudes are bitches
In the end, Mr. William is one of the most overated writers around and hell a nice chunk of people don't even think he really wrote half of his plays
