Yeah, I like the MMO genre, but for me, I find a lot of the MMOs somewhat lacking. Probably spoiled by the fact that my first MMO was WoW, and most things don't quite live up to it.

Currently been playing DCUO, been enjoying it, but there's one of the solo instances I was having troubles with... might get easier if I manage to level on other stuff... probably doesn't help I've been skipping group stuff, with a lack of a league, odd time schedules and a lack of a social network.

Starship Troopers Online - AOL MMO [You paid BY THE HOUR]
Neopets (Is this really an MMO?)
Planetside (Sony FPS-MMO)
Star Wars: Galaxies
City of Heroes
World of Warcraft
EVE Online (One of the worst MMO experiences I've had)
City of Villains
Everquest II (The absolute worst MMO I've ever played)
Guild Wars
Runescape (Just a bit, was a crap game)
Tabula Rasa (Just a bit, was a dead game)
Star Wars: The Old Republic

I loved Planetside back when it wasn't found at www.planetside.com like it is now. Oh how much crap it has been turned into. That game got me into games that required better systems.

I have messed around with allot of MMO's but I generally don't play them for very long before I get bored of them for whatever reason. I do have allot of hours in Guild Wars. I?m on/off with that game. I won?t play it for a year then I play it for a month and stop again.

I think the opinion of the average Escapist on MMOs can probably be summed up as "MMO ARE ONLY GRIND LOL" before they go back to leveling their bowstring skill up to 50 on Skyrim or whatever.
I lol'd. I don't read the Escapist for MMO coverage, because to be honest what little coverage there is is pretty bad. Same could be said for the forums, despite the TES games being essentially single player MMOs.

Anyway, I like MMOs and have certainly spent more time on them than on single player games in the last 3 or 4 years. For world building and exploration, they kick the ass of any single player game you can mention, and it's only a grind if you let it become a grind, or if you're trying to rush to the level cap as quickly as possible. I've played...

City of Heroes - more time on this than any of the others, though I only dip into it ocassionally these days. No interest whatsoever in the endgame content that's been recently introduced.

Fallen Earth - probably my favourite, and certainly the game I go back to most often. Still nowhere near the level cap.

Lord of the Rings Online - much better than I expected it to be and not at all a tacky movie tie-in. The world building is exceptional, and I'd say if you're a Tolkein fan you must at least try this game.

World of Warcraft - I enjoy WoW in small doses, but of all the MMOs I've played for any length of time it's the one that feels most like a machine, in which you are a small cog. So well designed, but just lacks 'soul' for me.

Those would be the main ones I've played for any length of time. Champions, DCUO, Warhammer Online, DDO, Rift and probably others were all uninstalled quite quickly. TOR is currently downloading in the run up to the beta weekend, though I am not optimistic.
