The Challenger2 does have an amazing armament. 8km is a pretty good distance, but you might want to read up on your tank manual before using that as your primary selling point. The round that goes 8km is your standard HE(High Explosive) round. For tank to tank fighting you need to actually pierce the hull. The challenger isn't capable of firing an AP round that distance. Thats why I gave the Abram a vote. Also it can turn its main cannon into a giant fucking shotgun.

Sorry to burst all the Abrams lovers' bubbles, but there are just too many things that its rocket engine screws up. Its 10,000 degree F exhaust makes it the perfect target for any sort of heat seeking device a fighter jet wants to send up its bum, makes it impossible for infantry to follow it into combat, and gives it an infrared signature 4x that of a diesel engine. Also, it burns through fuel like...well, a jet.

When it comes down to it, I think it's really gotta be a toss up between the Abrams, the Merkava and the Leopard 2, but I gave it to the Leopard because those damn Germans are so efficient. It's the cheapest to manufacture, is easiest to repair and [if I'm not mistaken] gets the best gas mileage all while having evenly matched armor and weapons to both the Abrams and Merkava.

Oh, and for all of you who say it's the Challenger, why don't you look up the British cover-up of the failure of its armor (or should I say armour).

I am torn between the Abram and the Leopard in terms of "most powerful tank"

The most awsome tank though is clearly the Challenger 2, you can brew tea in it!!

Nope. Laws of War state "It is to be condemned only when it wounds, or does not kill immediately, in such a way as to produce suffering that has no reasonable relation to the killing or placing the man out of action for an effective period." The canister round fires 3/8inch tungsten balls. It is highly unlikely you would survive taking one of those.

I'm proud to say I have no idea what any of those stats mean. I would need my brother here to translate WoW for me.

I don't know enough to say categorically. I know the Leopard 2 has, what is considered to be, the best weapon - as far a range and velocity go - in the L55 (? - not sure on the numbers). The Abrams has the ability to use any fuel and The Challenger has the overall fuel efficiency. The armour varies very little between the three - the Challenger 2 and the Abrams' armour is so similar it hardly matters - though the Leopard 2 may be a little more vulnerable.

Overall they are so similar to one another, where one is slightly weaker in one area, it is slightly stronger in another.

My vote goes for the Challenger 2 - but only because I'm British.

To me its between the Merkava and the Challenger 2.

I was watching a doco on the Merkava and they were upgrading them to have weapons systems capable of picking out a man weilding a gun from the a long way away, even when he is camoflaged.

Also they had the ability to set explosive rounds to detonate at a certain distance - ie they shoot a brick wall and set them to explode a metre after it, killing the guy hiding behind it.

The Challenger 2 because it is the successor the Centurion, imo the worlds most effective and battle proven tank. 8km range is fairly scary as well.

That WoW char someone linked is pretty decked, but he hasn't got everything, not that he's far off.

Like every British tank since the Centurion, Challenger 2 contains a boiling vessel (BV) also known as a kettle or "bivvie" for water which can be used to brew tea, produce other hot beverages and heat "boil-in-the-bag" meals contained in ration packs.
I don't know a whole bunch about tanks, but this definitely sold me over. The Challenger 2 it is!
Agreed, I mean, you can't get more nationalistic than that, having a tank in wich you can have your afternoon tea. Pure gold.

The Swedish S-tank!

Because it's so ridiculously specialized and has a fixed turret! Yes, they have to turn the whole tank to shoot. You have got to love the Swedes.

My inner patriot wants me to vote for the Abrams. But I want a nice cup of tea while blowing people up. The Challenger gets my vote but only because of the tea.
