Well i think I'm going to try to be scientific about this. I want to see if all this hype is genuine or if it's just fake. I've talked to all of my friends about Twilight and none of them like it or can explain why this is so big. so please if you're a fan of either the books or movies please explain to the rest of us why you like this.
You really can't figure out why its big? Its been reinvented for the benefit of teenaged girls. EASY.

Asking this community to vote however, wouldn't get you particularly far.

I stand to make a motion, next twilight post that says I hate them for such and such reason, that isn't original or at least thought provoking we cut there eyes out and place them on pikes out from the author's house. Yes we know the books suck, we know the movies are even worse. Stop with these posts!

Was going to say that this isn't really the target audience. I have to say that while I haven't read it yet, I at some point intend to give it a chance to see why it's so big.

In answer to the OP however I can offer up a few tid bits of insight. Among the lasses I know there seems to be an pretty even split those who like it and those who think of it as an abomination. Based on what I've noticed the people who like it and the people that don't like it can't understand one anothers views on it even if they agree on most things normally. It seems to have something in it that makes you either love it or hate it. My one friend who really dislikes it but like me loves to read romance novels, even bad ones. However she hates twilight because it represents as very creepy and abusive relationship in her mind. I'm not sure about the ones who like it, I've been told it's that they think it's so romantic however I've not asked any of them.

Personally I'm willing to give it a shot to see what it looks like, I however already know I can't stand the movies some of the actors and their acting makes me a sad panda.

I can see where this thread is going... Well... has already gone...

I just don't like Twilight because it screws up what vampires are known for. While I haven't read the books, I discuss it with my co-workers a lot. Besides, no vampire from a series like Twilight can hold a candle to ones like Vorador, Kain or Alucard.

Hell, I'd take Leslie Nielson's Dracula over Twilight vamps! At least he enjoys drinking vine and eating chit'in.

Well uh the first thing I see is that there's a lowercase t before the actual word Twilight.

No but really, lets all get vevuzelas and play them in the theaters.

You're clearly new here.

Twilight is the biggest piece of shit literature released in the last 20 years, with roughly equal literary value to The Chronicles of Gor [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Gor], for similar reasons. The prose is appalling, the characters are INCREDIBLY flat and dull, the plots are unbelievably stupid and the overall themes are actively repulsive and offensive. The reason for all the hype is because it has "OMG PRETTY SPARKLY VAMPIRE MEN WHO CAN LOVE A PLAIN GIRL LIKE ME" in it. It's lowest-common-denominator crap aimed at the impressionable (and quite honestly rather dumb) female audience. By any reasonable aesthetic standard it's utter shit (not to mention offensive due to its horrible "stalking is love", "co-dependance is vital to a successful relationship" "beauty is the most important thing" messages) and the fact that it is a worldwide phenomenon doesn't change this one bit.

As I always say: can millions of screaming fans possibly be wrong? Well of course they fucking well can!'
why is there a conspicuous lack of referencing here? None of these are your own conclusions, make a few citations! Bob needs some credit ya' know!
Don't know why but I wanted to say that. The, "plain girl like me" thing is also as old as the first time a critic held the first book in tehir hands.

Anyway, ugh, this forum has a bad twilight rash and it's high time to just ban the guys. :D

Just like what everyone has just said, PLEASE stop with the twilight threads. Not only are they completly old on this site, but you're giving the series publicity, even if it's not going to do much here. I think just about everyone here is intelligent enough to not like it, so the poll is unecessary. Just stop.

I can't really understand it... I guess because women like to be dominated by men? I dunno.

Where's the I'm indifferent option? I've read all the books watched all the movies. You want to know how it's so thick, half of it is Bella explaining how Edward looks yet all of it is so subjective you can picture anyone you feel like it. That's why I think people like it so much, it's a skeleton for a story so you can interpret it anyway you want and have your own little vampire fantasy. Bella is pale, brunette, and has average looks. That's about the most is describes her as so almost any girl shares one trait with her, and she has no personality besides trying to kill herself if Edward isn't nearby.

I first read it after being forced to read the Great Gatsby and anything is good compared to that sorry excuse for a book, even Twilight. At least until I got to the part that vampires sparkle. That pissed me off to no end and almost made me want to stop reading, but being raised watching Buffy I always loved vampires and used there interpretation as a standard. Even if a vampire could go out in daylight it would just be weaker, but it wouldn't sparkle. Other than that I quote Moviebob saying it's "Formula stacked on cliche stacked on bullshit"

Does anybody else find it funny nobody voted that they liked anything other than "I hate everything about twilight", and "I read the books and they were ok"

Just a question for everyone.. perhaps rather then complaining about, oh gee another twilight thread perhaps we could have an intelligent discussion on the topic? I realize most people here dislike it. But out of curiosity if you have watched the movies or read the books, what elements of it did you dislike?

You know have a discussion on it.

@LinkAssassin, no not really after all everyone on this site seems to feel that way. Great sample to pick for the above poster.

I decided to watch the first movie at the very least that way I'd have a basic idea of what I'm talking about here. It wasn't that bad, the acting was sub par and it had more then a few elements that bothered me, including some of the artistic direction and a few parts of the plot, but all in all it wasn't a bad story. I mean I think that it's a pretty terrible thing to aspire too and there is a fair bit of the character just being loved by everyone. But hey I mean it wasn't a bad movie, I can certainly see where it gets it's appeal from even if it didn't really do it for me.

So yeah, that's just me I know that I didn't say a lot good about it that's cause I've seen much better movies, but I'm not saying it was a bad movie, it was kinda fun to watch and I may even watch new moon depending on how crazy I'm feeling.
