Spotted hyenas. They have a very negative stereotype but I researched them when I was a kid and they're fascinating animals. Because their movement is articulated in a way that requires less brain power than most animals they have large cortexes and consequently are incredibly strategically and socially intelligent, rivalling some primates. They're carnivores (they have one of the most powerful bites in the animal kingdom, and are capable of digesting bone) but frequently live within metres of warthogs as they share resources such as water holes and burrows. They're not related to dogs as most people claim, but actually come from the same evolutionary line as the badger, and they live in matriarchal groups from 5-80 individuals called clans. Also, they are up there with dolphins, humans and other primates as animals that continue to play without learning purposes throughout their lives.

In short, they're pretty cool.

oh, ligers a good one. they're hybrids between lions and tigers. sadly, they can't breed to make more ligers, as hybrids are sterile. mules are also hybrids.

Both dogs and horses hold the top spot for me. Dogs because we always had at least one when I was a kid and they're awesome animals. Horses; because why not?

I just love otters too they are so cute. The Giant Otter otherwise known as the "river wolf" takes the cake though. Combining both cuteness and badeassery since they kill Caimans (family of the crocodile).
