RPG gets my vote, because nearly all my favourite games fall under that category.
Dark Souls, Final Fantasy (pre-11), Planescape: Torment, Chrono Trigger, Kingdom Hearts... The list goes on and on.

Platformers will always be my favourite. I'm particularly fond of the Prince of Persia series (well what little I've played of it).

RPG's like BG, Xenoblade Chronicles, Persona series, Icewind Dale, legend of Heroes, Planescape Torment, etc. Why? Because of the stories and characters and hours of fun.

First Person Shooter.

If I have to pick one of these categories, it looks about right.

I'm including Minecraft, 7 Days To Die, The S.T.A.L.K.E.R Series, GodMode and Borderlands 1 and 2 in the category, even though some have elements of, or outright cross into, other categories.

I'll always have a soft spot for the old point and click puzzle games. Monkey Island, Simon the Sorcerer etc. I guess that might be for as much the comedy as the puzzles though.

Strategy games are also good. I guess I like games that you can take your time over and have a cup of tea whilst you play.

Favourite Genre- RPG

Favourite RPG- Xenoblade Chronicle, it does things right when others rpg does it wrong like the game let me save ANYWHERE so no limited save spots! You can explored anything within sight so no invisible walls. The game also had a fantastic soundtrack since there were so many variation (rock, ballard/ opera like and county like aswell). The character class were not fully sterotype (the healer got a sniper rifle and you can never able to buy a sword for the main character since he weilding the iconic sword in the game)!
Granted the game wasn't perfect (fetch quests was a ***** and you need a good tv to played so you can clearly see the npc dot on the map) but the flaws can easily overlooked at how awesome the game is!

In general, I'd say RPGs, although that is admittedly a pretty broad term, which can conceivably everything from Skyrim to Torchlight to Fallout to Terraria to Pokemon; "RPG" is basically just a catch-all term for any game where the emphasis is on some sort of character progression and allowing the player to express themselves through playstyle and/or story choices.

My favourite RPG is probably a toss-up between Fallout: New Vegas and Fallen London. They're both quite different in a lot of ways (one is a AAA open world action-RPG, the other is some sort of weird text adventure social game thing), but they both give me the things I really want out of an RPG; lots of choices, lots of things to discover, and lots of different ways to play. In both games, I inevitably feel like my character is more a product of my imagination rather than that of the writers, which is a really cool feeling to have even if it's only an illusion.

RPGs, specifically western action-RPGs and the old BioWare/Interplay isometric-based RPGs. Those kinds of games fill the majority of my time playing games and I generally love them over anything else. Just recently, I have become appreciative towards old school FPS as well, but it ain't the same as a good RPG, man.

Real-Time Strategy games will always hold a place in my heart.
While I have never played C&C, I actually love the Empire Earth series. I cry myself asleep at night thinking about the awful 3rd one.
oh you silly person there is no empire earth 3, nope it was never made, doesnt exist and doesnt still give me nightmares at all. same with master of orion 3 that wasnt made and people didnt buy up copies from stores purely to destroy them just to save others.

in answer to the question for me its turn based strategy, bow down before your empress peasants for i rule this realm!

I'm going to be different and say puzzle as well.

I've poured nearly 400 hours into bejeweled 3, and I'd play lumines till I die.

Second favorite would be music games.

DDR,In the groove, pop'n music, pump it up.

If you would have asked me 15 years ago, I would have said JRPGs. I grew up on them.

Grand Strategy is my current 'fix'-CK2 and EU4 are great fun, albeit with a learning cliff only matched by stuff like Dwarf Fortress. Other than that, I don't really have genre preferences-more individual games/series over genre. That's the reason that I love Borderlands & TF2, but can't/don't play other major FPS's (It doesn't help that I can't handle consoles at all-matches with my friends usually end with them just seeing all the trick-kills they can do on me). Overall, I probably tend to learn towards empire/nation management (EU4, Ck2, Civ 4 & 5)-I grew up on Age of Empires and Rome:Total War, which tends to fall in either turn-based or RTS, depending on the game. So yeah, mark me down for 'Other'
