Where's the metalcore option? Because that's my favorite.
"-core" genres are actually closer to punk.

OT: Uh, I'll put death metal on the poll, but my favorite metal genre is love metal.

Thrash. I'm a big fan of Metallica, Megadeth and such. Though I do listen to Children of Bodom (i'm not sure what sub-genre they are classed as) and Mercyful Fate and other death metal stuff.

Metalcore but I've grown off metal over the past 2 years.

Lol at people saying power metal. One of the worst metal subgenres out there.

Poll is pretty bad tbh. I understand that options are limited but still.

^Whatever type of metal THAT is.

I can't seem to find a category that MegaMan Metal falls under.

NIN? Fucking NIN?

That's industrial metal, dude. Not nu-metal.

Also, grunge isn't a metal genre.

ALSO, where's Alternative Metal? :(

EDIT: Lord, so much Power Metal. WHY. Y U GUYS DO DIS. People complain about Nu-Metal being "teenager music", but next to Power Metal that shit's Bjork.

I just wanna say, I also know you from mindlessly reading comment threads on Sputnikmusic. Don't always agree with your tastes but you helped convince me to get the new Silverstein, which is amazing. Hope that doesn't make me sound like a creepy bastard.

Also yeah, power metal is mostly terrible. Puts me to sleep. I understand that the guys/girls voices are amazing, and yeah they are, but I really can't appreciate that when the music behind it is horribly boring.

Except for maybe this:

You're not actually the first person to recognise me from there. It's happened at least 2 or 3 times before. Kinda weird when you realise how many people surf that site. I'm always expecting someone to call me out when they find me somewhere else.

If you want your poll to be an accurate reflection of something, try to avoid putting in gag options.
Also, I'm gonna be "that guy" and ask: Where's industrial?

I always thought Nightwish was symphonic metal, unless that counts as a sub-genre of power metal. :/
(Music categorisation is not my strongest subject!)
They do a combination of symphonic and symphonic power metal. It is sorta hard to tell which because in the extreme cases it all comes down to the technical side of music rather than the actual execution.

Personally my tastes are more along the lines of Heavy Metal (Sabbath and co.), Speed Metal and NWOBHM. I indulge myself in bits and bobs of other sub-genres but for the most part I like my Metal stripped down, fast and raw. Motorhead and Iron Maiden are my favourite bands, but my favourite Metal track at the moment is Children of the Grave by Black Sabbath. My favourite song of all time is Every Picture Tells a Story by Rod Stewart.

Also, I find your poll very limited. Perhaps you should have tried grouping similar sub-genres together into one option and asked people to specify.

And Grunge isn't Metal.

Classic metal fan over here, along with thrash. Not a huge fan of death and black metal. Though this is the first time I've heard of pirate metal, better go check it out...

Mostly Post-Metal I like, I really love the shoegazey stuff. Alcest, Jesu, and Les Discrets are the heavy hitters in that genre.

I also like Sludge which is practically Noise Metal, Prog Metal is always great, Industrial Metal is pretty cool, and i do like the Gothic doom stuff like Paradise Lost. I was never huge on this whole piggy squealing Grindcore, or the extremely hard growling Death/Black Metal for that matter. To be honest, I seriously don't see the appeal of that music at all. I even see more appeal in Crunkcore, and Nintendocore than that stuff.

Yeah...that's a thing... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendocore)

Also Drone, hearing broken refrigerator noises for ten minutes isn't exactly my forte.

Uhhh...

Crossover

Industrial

I get that there are only so many options you're allowed to put into a poll (Also Crossover could maybe be put under "Thrash") but still... No love for Industrial Metal?

Then again, I don't really have a favourite metal, I all the ones I like are equal in my eyes:

Death, Thrash, Heavy, Pirate, Viking, Nu, etc.

I'm personally more towards the Gothic Rock/Gothic Punk/Punk Rock/Hardcore Punk direction myself when it comes down to it (I.e. When my friend asked me if I preferred all sub-genres of Metal or Punk)

Disappointed at the lack of grind or crust in the poll. If I'm putting the folk/pop/electronic music down for some metal, I prefer that it attempt to rip my head off with the claw end of a hammer. That being said, just because it's my favorite doesn't mean I'll turn my nose up at Gojira or something. Oh, and posting some examples to have music in a music thread:

Delicious!
