i put down action adventure but RPGs are a really close second. The game isn't always about genre, it's how you tell what you're trying to

i like rpgs and all, but fps's just bring me a greater joy, well the multiplayer ones mainly do. rpg's are all about story and watching from a 3rd person perspective to see what happens. Fps are all about the quick decisions and having fun. I can be the one being chased instead of watching my character be chased.

Mostly rpg's I guess but I chose FPS in the poll purely because of battlefield 2 which is IMHO one of the best games of all time for combining most aspects of warfare . Here's hoping the announcement of battlefield 3 tomorrow won't deliver a consolified mess or call of duty battlefield hybrid (aka bad company) if the latter happens i think I will actually cry and hold a small funeral for the battlefield franchise

No option for my choice.

I like ALL genres. As long as the the game is polished I can play FPS, RTS, RPG, Racing and simulators of all kind. I love gaming and would never close myself on just one single genre.

There needs to be an "Other" or "Hybrid" option. Anyway, my favorite are FPSRPGs (STALKER, BioShock, Fallout 3, Borderlands) because they are shooters, but also have more to do that just play through the game, and a lot are open world-ish and not linear.

I'll take the biggest results from this onr and create a more refined/fixed thread later

Looks like FPSes are catching up.

Bioshock, fallout borderlands, are in the FPS category

Aww, I'm the only person who voted for racing...
But you can't blame a man for loving racing games. They're easy and hard, usually have differing difficulties, tons of replay value, and if you've got some friends to play with (and split-screen preferred) its the most fun you can possibly have outside of something like Smash Bros. or Mario Party.
Seriously, nothing more fun than racing along, both you and the friend doing swimmingly, then as the finish line comes into view, the race turns into a demo derby.

Turn based strategy for me. I'm happy with RTS's too, as long as it's not the build/rush type. Just love the methodicality of it all (don't know if that's a word, but it is now).

After that, it has to be RPG. Anything Bioware is not to be knocked, in my opinion

Why would you say "includes BioShock" next to FPS? Is BioShock no longer an FPS?

And I don't really have a favorite genre. I mean... my top 5 favorite games are Resident Evil 4 (survival horror/third person action), Call of Duty: United Offensive (first person shooter), Professor Layton and the Curious Village (puzzle), Heavy Rain (interactive drama), and Metal Gear Solid 2 (stealth action). I like to play games of every genre.

Just saying but you probably could have chopped down the genres a bit better, you pretty much have some multiples up on there that could be condensed.
As in:
Shooter(FPS/TPS)
RPG(JRPG/WRPG/MMORPG)
Action/Adventure(Hack n' Slash/Etc.)
Fighting(2D/3D)
Sports(Baseball/Basketball/Racing/Etc)
Casual
Retro
