I spent the most time in singleplayer, co-op and multiplayer in the second. So I would say that was my favourite.
I thought that a lot of the advancements in the Halo series came with the second one, awesome multi player and the story is actually alright, although there was a lot of bad feeling towards it when it came out. I would say that Halo 2 was a real revolution on CE whereas 3 and ODST (wars is quite different so I don't really count it in the series) just added to or changed the set up of 2.
I would say Halo CE, but CE is my favourite in the same way that the common cold would be my favourite disease to get. So my vote goes to Farcry...
Also Halo threads are frequent, you might not know that since you are newish. Some people get touchy about the repetition.

Maybe one of the hardest decisions i have had to make on here - between Halo CE and Halo 3.
Halo CE changed the FPS genre like no other - no other game at that time had such large beautiful environments.
Halo 3 may not have been as good storyline wise as CE, but its graphics were amazingly good for the time which it was released and the game play itself was truly amazing - like no other.
I will say that unlike many other people i liked ODST very much

halo ce, but the others are great too its just that ce made me a gamer. I cant wait for reach, it has a halo:ce feel to it that i liked alot
Playing 4 player split screen with my mates on Halo CE was cool, and the co-op was alright. My Halo 2 was in french so I didn't get into it (being that I don't understand a word). Halo 3's co-op was funner in my opinion, and playing online with mates as well as split screen was better. Nothing like playing big-team with a team full of mates living in the same hall as you.
Halo Combat Evolved for the story campaign. The first time you stepped onto Halo and saw the whole planet arcing above you was simply amazing. The enemies also felt like an actual challenge unlike the sequels where you can beat half the game simply smacking everyone in the face due to the fact that they flinch every time you strike.
Halo 2 had the best multiplayer.
Halo 3 was a nice game, but added nothing as far as I am concerned.
I haven't played Halo Wars, except the demo which failed to impress.
ODST would have been ten times better if it had been set mostly at night as those were the best parts.

Hard to choose so I'll make a list from most favorite to least.
1: Halo CE
2: Halo 3
3: Halo 2
4: ODST
5: Halo Wars
As for Reach, so far the beta was terrific and I'm hoping the campaign will be just as great.
