I'm kinda neutral on the concept.
Side note: I am very excited about a new 2.5D game that Nexon is going to release soon. :D
DFO by any chance? I'm playing that when it comes out on open beta so... yeah.

Back on-topic, I don't mind them, especially for XBLA games. You get the feeling of a 2D game with the graphics of a 3D game. I think it's almost a good thing, especially since I like 2D games in general.

What. Are. You. Talking about?!

Anyway, yes, I like 2.5D games, but that doesn't mean I, in no way, despise 2D games.
Since I'm an avid Nintendo DS gamer, I must like 2D.

Anything that uses a decimal point to describe gameplay is a no.

I'm racist against math.
Fuck you, math.
would you rather it be called 2D gameplay with 3DGraphics?

Im all about sticking it to the math but that was a little..harsh?
Yeah, it was. It was also low and weak.
The angels are ashamed, Max, and you should too.

I admittedly don't really see the difference; It's basically a 2d platformer, but using 3d graphics to pretty-up the environments is OK with me. That said; The older Crash Bandicoot games, some newer ones like 'Splosion Man, New Super Mario Bros, and indie projects like the Megaman 2.5d game are great ideas, it's a way to keep a simple, great concept with modernizing the landscape.

All this talk about pretty graphics makes me want to see a 2.5d platformer being rendered by CryEngine3.

2.5D was the bread and butter of PC gaming before video cards got beefy in the early part of this decade. Railroad Tycoon 2, Tropico, Daggerfall..."pseudo-3D" had a hell of a heyday.

That I liked PH or that I liked the snes look?
That this thread is about 2.5D games and that none of the games in the Zelda series are 2.5D.

2.5D is 3d graphics in a 2D plane is it not? In which case phantom hourglass is the only zelda title that fits the description, the others are either 2 or 3D to my knowledge. Admittedly they do have the ability to move up and down but that's just really to another 2D plane.

I don't like when people call it 2.5D. It's just 2D except they try to act les cheap by making the background 3D.

It's top-down isometric view. Would you call Fallout 1 and 2 2.5D games?

The Afro Samurai game did a 2.5D thing and it was great, if that's what you mean.

I think you could. They have 3d graphics on a 2d world (except when changing areas) so they could fit under that category. Isometric is pretty much just a way of presentation whilst 2.5D is as much gameplay as graphics.

I like the 2.5D sections in Sonic Unleashed. Also, Super Smash Bros, and LittleBigPlanet. I also think that Castlevania would make a good 2.5D game (if it hasn't already, I'm behind on my Castlevania knowledge).

Phantom Hourglass is a funny one - but its still damn pretty!

Im liking some of your responses guys - but some people think Im slamming 2D games - they are still awesome - side scrollers are probably my fave type of game - I just like whacky ideas and pretty sprites incorcorated into them :D

This just made me think of N. Damn that's a good game, but very frustrating.

All the fun of a 2D game (see Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus, Super Smash Bros series, Metroid), and they look just as nice as all the other games.
The Abe games rocked! I want to try and find them again!
