You need to change that. No, I'm not kidding. Watch this series!

OT: Air. It's the most useful for everyday life (face it, we're not facing down invading armies of superhumans here). Free transportation, free air conditioning, and being able to move things around as you wish. Sounds good to me.
Does it let me fly and have force-ish powers?

Also, on an unrelated note, why isn't there any plant bending? Did they ever explain that? Just a little curious.
There is, it's just another form of waterbending. One of those swamp rednecks is seen using this technique in more than one episode; he bends an enormous mass of vines around his body as armour and effectively becomes a 3-metre-high plant golem.

OT: Earth Bender. First there are the practical applications, second I could develop metalbending abilities, and third I just love the look and moves of the fighting style.

This is definitely a tough choice. D:

I'd have to go with water simply because of its versatility. Water can be a turned into a liquid a solid or a gas. :D

Good questions. You should watch the series to find out those answers.

But yes. To the flying at least. Not sure what you mean by force-ish powers, but if you mean moving things around, sure it can be used for that.

If you like it that much (and are able), you could look into studying Hung Ga Kung Fu. That's the actual fighting style that Earthbending is built on.

Yes, I looked it up. Sounds quite exciting!

However, before I pick up any kind of martial arts, I suppose first I'd better drop a few dozen pounds. ^^°

Two birds with one stone m'friend. Martial arts are a great way to lose weight. There's a nutritionist that goes to my martial arts school that estimates that we burn 900 to 1000 calories in one class (one hour)!

Hmmm. You do have a point. However, that prospect still won't do me much good if I have the stamina of an asthmatic chainsmoker with one lung. :p

Fire. It looks really cool when they firebend and if I'm really good enough I can control lightning!

Airbending, I actually though Aang was kinda a badass with his natural element. Plus being able to fly and evade attacks makes for a very dangerous opponent.

Yeah, I have that problem too. When most of the people in my class start breaking a sweat I'm already doubled over wheezing. Like anything else, though, it's just something that you build up. The classes themselves are excellent cardio work, but I've also started to stay late and run on the treadmill with a weighted vest, or just spend a good length of time working the bags.

You don't run the New York Marathon without taking a jog around the block a few times first ;)

Water was the most powerful in the entire series. The one episode with the witch proved that. You can do blood bending. You can turn people into raisins. You can kill them by turning their blood to ice. Making them just explode. It's by far the most powerful. By that logic too you could use earthbending to basically dissolve someone's bones and air bending to make the gasses in their blood come out of solution and make them pop.

Fire, because fire. I love the power that comes with it, and it's so prettttyyyyyy... Also, it can be used in almost any situation, save for when underwater or in a vacuum. But I'd be screwed by that point, anyway.
