Out of the traditional Warrior, Thief, Mage line up I choose Mage.

That being said, my ideal class is more of a Spellsword. I loved being a DK in Wow.

I'm a generalist, so I do a bit of everything, and try to keep my levels balanced. And when I do fight, I'm a warrior.

Whatever can do the highest single-target damage as fast as possible. Although I don't like mage classes to be honest, or the whole concept of having to "Cast" something.

So usually single target big damage dealers.

I'm partial to Rangers in D&D, basically because they can do a little of everything and still kick almost as much physical butt as a Fighter. I tend to take jack of all trades classes in videogames as well.

clerics, i dont know, maybe because they are almost always in demand, or can solo pretty easily (depending on build), or because they tend to be quite difficult to those not used to playing a cleric (ignoring an enemy when your on the front line is generally ok, you might just loose them, maybe another teammate will pick them off, or they will wack the back of your head once then you rape them, ignore an ally due to distractions, and you have a major problem, they will ***** at you, they might die, the party might loose, playing a good cleric that can still participate in battle requires alot of attention, if at least on your HUD)
very few people/parties wouldnt be made better with the addition of a cleric, only exception in my book is a arcane warforged party in D&D
And, added bonus, got to many clerics, they can replace their spells with damage/debuf spells and be quite good damage dealers
and, as always, turn undead (or channeling)
oh, and your allies tend to put priorty defense on you, as long as you dont suck, and they dont suck...

I've played more thieves than any other class, and no, I've never played a "rogue". Pfft, "rogue".

I've never wanted to play a Bard

These are the main characters I play for D&D (3.5): Human Ranger, Gnome Necromancer, Dwarf Barbarian/Paladin/Black Knight and a halfling rogue.

For Dark Heresy: Hive World/Mind Cleansed Assassin, Void Born Psyker, or a good ol' feral world Guardsman. Maybe a Hive World Tech Adept occasionally.

Keep looking forward, keep looking forward, keep looking forward...

BACKSTAB! You're dead!

OT:I generally like rogues or any class like them. If I can't be sneaky I'll stick with doing a bunch of damage up close so a striker/DPS class is good for me.

Its hard to define. I perfer rangers, but they tend to be underpowered, or really boring to play in most rpgs. I tend to go towards melee power houses in fantasy rpgs, in space rpgs (like mass effect) i tend to be more on pure combat instead of psuedo-magic. however, im very random.

Mass Effect: Soldier
Dragon Age: Rogue (dual handed melee)
Oblivion: like everything, that game was boring as hell no matter what i tried
Guild wars: i was a bad-friggin-ass elementalist. i was pure awesome at that game.
WoW: im not so great at this game, but i LOVE my warrior. i like being able to soak massive amounts of damage while still pulling some of the highest dps in my group. (course, im only lvl 65 so the other people may get better eventually)

I like to have a mix of combat and magic if possible. Like the Vanguard in Mass Effect, except that had Biotics.

I play as a Paladin if I am given the choice. However, on DDO, I have a Wizard and a Ranger that I enjoy messing around on from time to time.

I usually go for the warrior/soldier class. When I play Fallout 3, I play as a big hulk in power armor gunning everything down with his minigun, but when he gets bored he will put on his chinese stealth suit and you will never know he was there except that you now have a lot less friends. Also to all you mages and rangers out there, you can't touch me if...I CAN HAZ FORCE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!

Social, like a bard or ventrue (since everyone else is throwing WoD out there)

What's better than walking around as a giant armory and killing everything? Convincing nameless NPCs to do it for you, or even the other players
