Me I love casting spells, MAgic Missle....against teh Darkness LOL.

Seriously, I work well as a spellcaster, attacking multiple opponents, aiding from the rear, I'm no good as a thief or warrior. But a Healer or Bowman could also work for me.
For me magic always just seemed so much more versatile, that's why I love it. There are spells for handling just about everything, par perhaps close quarter fighting.

Either straight up White mage (healing and support spells) or Rogue class that weakens the enemy/disable them thus letting the team kill them quick.

People don't know whether to stay at a distance or come up close. Except for the rogues who have already pick pocketed you and their party members and have run off.

Damage or control caster. Generally that is a mage but for some games I also play druid types.

I like being a Ranger, but I'm not below grabbing a claymore and killing everything in a hundred mile radius.

Rogue or whatever the equivalent is in any system. I love all the sneak attack damage. The guile isn't half bad either.

I've never had a specific type that I've remained loyal to; however, recently I've enjoyed playing as a warrior with the heaviest armor possible. That and pure melee damage, not a rogue though, give me some nice heavy weapon damage.

For my part, it really depends on what kind of group I'm going to be in. If I'm in a small group, I'll often elect to play as a Warrior variant so the rest of the party can be a little more varied. If I'm part of a larger group, I typically choose to play multirole characters, my typical build being either a Spellsword or a mix between the Mage and the Thief archetypes (it depends on what everyone else seems to be leaning toward - Hack'n'Slash, Cast'n'Fry, or Slash'n'Grab).
I can play just about anything comfortably. If I have things my way, though...the mooks never see me coming, and the guards walk away convinced that I had nothing to do with the nearby pile of bodies. It's just too bad that most RPGs aren't centered around that kind of playing style...

I'm a tank. Always have been, always will be. I charge headlong into the middle of everything and laugh as mine enemies' attacks do nothing.

Fighter/Barbarian. Just aim my character at some evil dudes and unleash him.
Don't forget the battle cry. I once made a Half-Orc Barbarian, however he was as dumb as his axe... so in order for him to attack an enemy, you had to say, "Thats the guy who called you fat" (he was self consience) and he pretty much went axe crazy

good times ^_^

I tend to pick something along the lines of paladins or at least warriors driven by some kind of zealotry. I'm a pretty moderate person, so it's entertaining and sometimes enlightening to enter that kind of mindset. I can sense sometimes a lot of confusion as to why I find that kind of character engaging, because I think a lot of media likes to attach the "crazy wingnut" stigma to this type. Alistair and all the other Templars, plus the Chantry, in DA:O come to mind.

Having good intentions with an inflexible mindset tends to create interesting situations in roleplaying, because it often brings up profound questions of morality that require thought. Of course, any well-played character can encourage thought and discussion, but there's just something I like about being a goody two-shoes white knight type. I'm not like that in real life at all, and in fact, those kind of people tend to annoy me more often than not, so it's interesting to think about why I like stepping into that role, even if it's just for fun.

In combat, Paladins are usually frustratingly durable and can bring the pain in their own special way. Unless you're talking about WoW. But they cocked the archetype up.

I almost always play as a Rogue. Sneaking through the shadows, dishing out major damage with attacks from behind, getting into places I am not supposed to be in... That's my style.

I'm the Red mage of the group. A guy who does magic and melee but isn't that great in either.
