Most games I play don't dwell on the simple class type character sheet we make.

It's more about what we do with them, how we role-play, what story do we tell.

For a video game, or any RPG that lets you create a class... I make them as powerful as I can depending on what skills/powers I want. It really depends on the world we play at that given time.

Since I play every week, my character is new every 4 weeks or so. We change storytellers many times a year. We have to make a new character more often than I would like too.

: (

I guess I try to make a character that is more diverse than specialized. The more options the better me thinks!

I just played D&D tonight.
Right now I'm just a fighter until I can choose/train in a higher class.
2nd edition btw.

Rogue, i just love sneaking around my victoms, watching them run past me to the fight, then when i spot a perfect victom... STRIKE!!! then run back and hide in the shadows. not to say thats what i always do, sometimes i take them on head to head. and in WoW, gathering 3 npcs together and using.. um.. forgot the moves... but it lets you strike 10 times in 2.5 seconds dealing 100% weapon damage with each strike.

If it's a game actually involving roleplaying you mean (PnP, or just a good one on the comp). I go around a lot. I prefer the sneaky rogue/thief class, but the rest happens a lot as well.

If you mean a game with a level system and classes but not actually involving roleplaying. I wouldn't know, I don't play those enough to have a preference :p

In D&D-based games, I'll often play a Bard (despite their almost invariable suckiness) since it's closest to my actual esoteric skillset (and level of suckiness.)
Perfect example of what you were saying about bards... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hObKKGdx6zo Sorry I don't remember how to do the embed thing...

Oh and I love the Summoner reference in the OP, well done.
Interesting, I used to wonder what class you'd be when you weren't DMing.
Really? When you made your character back in the day I'm pretty sure I commented on my class. What did you play again?
Mage, it was just after my WOW days and I thought that I'd be good at it, turns out I was wrong.

Mage. But staffs are for pussies.

I shall take my sword, and I shall fucking stab you. With a fireball for giggles.

Ah. Yeah, they are really different things. I really am going to have to finish writing my Serenity RPG campaign so I can get that going. Would be a great thing to get all the guys back together.

Really depends on the game.

In the frontal assault vs stealth I go for stealth. So games like Alpha protocol I'll be leveling stealth and pistols and using silent takedowns and silencer headshots.

In the armor/sword vs magic, I go for magic. So for games like DA: O. I'll go with a Mage.

Now, for something like Oblivion I have a lot of options. My favourite character was my last one. It focused mainly on stealth and bows, usually picking off targets before they could notice her, but had a wide variety of spells, mostly Destruction, to finish off anything that isn't dead by the time it starts getting close.

In MMOs, I really play all the classes and see what fits me the most. In WoW, I'm currently far more comfortable with melee classes, playing a tank/melee DPS (Druid).

Ranger, allways. Though I like supportclasses and mages too. =)
But primary I play as Ranger.

I'm guessing that's a reference to Summoner, OP?

Anywho's, I tend to go for a Battlemage type of class - in AD&D this means the War Mage class out of the Complete Arcane suppliment.

In tabletop, my first character of a game will usually be a Barbarian. If not that, then a spellcaster made for screwing around with (Silenced Blindness/Deafness for the win), or as a final type, the magical rogue type - so Malkavian, one of the 'magic assassin' classes in Oblivion, ect.
