Pacific Northwestern, which is American with only half of the (usually justified) negative stereotypes applied to us by other countries.

I would say that "foreign" is subjective to the place, not an individual. If the website is indeed based in the US, then non-Americans would indeed be foreign visitors, for the same reason that American tourists visiting Japan are also foreigners, and consider themselves foreigners whilst abroad in Japan.
The internet is not a place. For it to be a place one would have to exclusively be able to go there whilst not being somewhere else. The internet is a thing, it doesn't matter where its servers are located.

Forums, and other things, can decide they represent a country and so you'd be a foreigner there if you entered from outside. Like if I joined an American WoW server, or a forum for Americans about V8 engines.

The Escapist has made no such claim to nationality and is, therefore, neutral.
fair enough. This is true.

I'm a New Zealander living in Australia, I don't speak with the NZ accent so most people don't pick it. Sadly enough when they do find out I'm hailed with sheep jokes and some people even ask whether I speak a different language but that's life I guess.

I'm Aussie.

I don't quite "get" why it would be considered pretentious for an American to spell colour with a u. It's the correct way to spell it.

I was under the impression that Americans were the dominant nationality, possibly followed by British.
'American' is not a nationality, as America is a continent (or even two), not a country.

On a brighter note, when i see 'foreign' i read it as non-Korean. It's a starcraft thing. =)
Yes there are numerous countries in the Americas, but only one has "America" in its name, and uses the common soubriquet "American" as a demonym. You call yourself Korean and there's two of them, even if one's not particularly tasteful.

Just as I don't call myself a United-Kingdomite, and Britain is only part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (And its Dominions & Territories Overseas).
Do I want to het into this now? Hmm, I think I do.

"but only one has "America" in its name" Are the citizens of South Africa the only Africans? Are the Swiss not Europeans because their country is not part of the European Union?

"uses the common soubriquet "American" as a demonym" Citing common use as a justification, oh dear. I would argue that it's use is most often tachnically correct, as citizens of the USA are from the Americas. You though, literally call it a nationality.

"You call yourself Korean and there's two of them" Ah, you've got me there. Although in jest, I did make a similar mistake to the one of you I was pointing out in the very same post. My apologies, I meant South Korea.

Your last line doesn't seem to support the point you are trying to make. Or I simply don't understand it. Might be the language barrier, seeing as I had to look up both soubriquet and demonym earlier. You an I might call ourselves Europeans, though it is not our nationality.

Finland here, and if my finely honed internet lore is of any use, you'll find a lot of us here, there and everywhere. For some reason.

I'm English. Which is basically the same as saying "I'm naturally just better than you in every single way."

[sup]I kid. Mostly. Well, partly anyway.[/sup]

So since I began reading the escapist, my first thoughts were that this was an internationally owned site, perhaps because ZP brought me here. But then i began looking at everything else the site has to offer, and have since discovered that escapist is based in... North Carolina maybe? i forget right now... anyway, then i'm beeboppin' around the forums and see a lot of British-type people, maybe Australian, spelling words like color as "colour" generally means that you're British-ish, or a pretentious american.

so i'm wondering, is this an american site primarily occupied by Brits? if so, why is that do you think? ZP?

(so before i post this, i'm noticing that this may come across as racist, but i'm really just a curious person. i understand that race or ethnicity has nothing to do with our enjoyment of videogames, or our desire to discuss them amongst like minded people. It was just a bit of a trend that i couldn't help but notice.)

(PRE POSTING EDIT: there's not enough available choices for me to not feel like i'd be pigeonholing some people, and i wouldn't want to include an option like "Oriental" way too broad, so i'm changing this...)

Are you american or not?

(Post-Posting edit: I didn't scroll down to erase Polish, please don't select that.
People that don't have English as a first language can spell it colour as well. Cuz you know, it's the right way...
There are a lot of brits and americans, but a hell of a lot of others as well. I've seen a lot of Swedes for example, but that may be cuz I pay special attention to them. The internet is universal, and every "American" site is international. The only thing that excludes people is the language, and since pretty much everyone knows English that doesn't apply to American sites, and google translate is helping with the rest.
Also, the Escapist is based in the US, but it's content and contributors are everywhere. LRR is from Canada, Yahtzee is in Australia and so on.
