I guess I'm a hoarder. I never "trade-in" but I used to sell sometimes when I had less money. Now I'll just "lend" my games to friends indefinitely. My collection is pretty broad and extensive. While I usually buy new (except for keeping rental games on occasion) I will very rarely pre-order a title. If I do it has to have some sort of premium (bonus dlc or an art book or something) and I have to be pretty damn sure it will be outstanding.
For example, I was addicted to the Just Cause 2 demo so when bonus dlc was announced, I pre-ordered. I loved fallout3 so when bonus dlc was announced for New Vegas, I pre-ordered.

Hoarder, I can't say im a connoisseur though because some of the best games I have ever played have been ones from indie developers.

Awesome list...mix of Game Connoisseur and Hoarder of Things for sure. Always know what to spend my money on, since I have to track my budget, and never let go of any games I've purchased...ever.

Game Connoisseur. I like to know about what I am buying for myself.

I do sometimes buy a game on a whim or a friend's recommendation but lately that hasn't worked out too well for me

A mix between Hoarder of Things (since I'm primarily a PC gamer these days, it's by default) and Window Shopper. While my list of games for the PC is almost at the 70 mark (for which I'll blame C&C First Decade, which has 11 games, and my complete second season of Sam & Max which I've got installed) and I really should be getting on with some of them, I haven't bought a new game for my collection for a couple of months now.

I hoard games.

I buy waht I can. Often RTSes, which I play once then never play again. It's taking a lot of willpower not to buy all those RTSes I keep seeing.

Funny how everyones pretending to be a game connoiseur. Though this is the escapist I guess, it might not be so unlikely.

Personally, I definitely fit in the "wasteland trader" area. To tell the truth, I almost never buy games new and only a week after launch. Im gonna wait half a year for the price to drop and get it cheap then. I also trade games with friends, it works pretty well actually, I have a good gaming libary which I got for maybe 40% of the price everyone else would pay for all those games. And if I dont have anything to play anymore I will just swap with someone.

Of course, I make certain exceptions to this rule for games like Half Life, Reach or a bunch of RPGs. I have got to have those as soon as possible.
I didn't start as one, but over time you do get better at separating packaging and hype from gameplay. Once you know what you like, you start to be able to tell a lot about a game by the few screenshots on the back, the game trailers, and keywords from reviewers. If all else fails, you can hold off for a bit and listen to the opinions of others (such as here) or from friends. And sometimes there are demos and if need be Blockbuster and rental places of that sort to insure you aren't about to spend $50 on a game you are about to regret spending $5 on to rent. Honestly, I think "Game Connoisseur" is the end result for most gamers over time.

Game Connnoisseur...get me

Yes I own allot of old games and so on, I have a few younger friends who said I played 'retro' games too much, games that were around when they were but prunes...I think it was a polite way to say ''Your well old!''.

Wasteland Trader. I buy all the games my friends don't. The oldies, the indies. All my purchases are indie releases or budget titles. Gal Civ II has my eye right now (Yes its old, but yes, the demo is good) and its only $40 for the game and TWO expansions! I've gotten more time out of Freespace 2 than I can count, over 200 hours of G-Mod, and more than ten hours on most of my purchases. I play the crap out of my games. Only about once a month, I get a new one. Spring is my curse, though. This spring was my first being a PC gamer. Damn, I bought a lot of stuff.

There needs to be a category for "incredibly cheap bastard."
I said that if you don't like any of the criteria that you're free to create your own. Try and be creative with it.

Mix of Connoisseur and hoarder. I don't have endless resources, so I have to be picky about what I buy. Along those lines I usually keep what I have since what I have is good, and my interest tends to wax and wane.

Currently I'm into Oblivion (heavily modded) but last week I was playing RDR. Next week I'll probably get back into Elemental or Flashpoint.

I buy games and try to keep them all as much as possible but end up eventually trading in something to get another game.

All thats gonna change soon though, as i will be getting a job. :D
