There are times when I dread it, however.

A PM is fine too.

I'm guessing it's when you see NMS in the same thread.

I like being quoted. Lots. But only if the poster has something more to add or continues with the chain of babble.
It makes me feel validated.

Although PMs are also wonderful.

I like PMs rather a lot. I recently got a bit of an odd one where someone PMed me who had joined that day and had no posts at all who gave me their email address and said they wanted to engage in "good relationship. no kids, never marriage." So that was a bit awkward.

I like PMs because its someone directly talking to me. Quotes can be doing the same, but there is something much more personal about PMs. Plus there is less of a chance that PMs will be scathing. Generally I find they resolve conflicts, or initiate friendly exchanges.

Quotes, it means I'm important and noticed. PM's are usually just scam things claiming someone's interested in me. And who'd vote probation/suspension notice?

But they are my favourites, in that order.

As much as I like getting a friend request, I like getting quoted more. It tells me someone took the time to read my post and agree/disagree with it.
