METAL, including: Lamb of God, Sylosis, Metallica, Anthrax, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, Mastodon, Iron Maiden, Older Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit (don't judge I saw them at Reading and they were surprisingly immense.)

ROCK: Muse, newer A7x, Enter Shikari and Pendulum, Prodigy, Abney Park, Biffy Clyro, Alice in Chains, old G'N'R and also Slash's new stuff.

I also like some reggae (Bob Marley) and some of the great solo guitar heroes: Hendrix, Vai, Vaughan, Buckethead, Van Halen.

Rammstein xD!

Thats about it... im gradually moving away from my roots in hard rock stuff like the older muse towards heavier and heavier music.

Rock and all its forms. From Elvis Rocking the Jailhouse, to Metallica in their Sanitarium. George Thorogood's 1 Bourbon, 1 Scotch, and 1 Beer to Godsmack and their Whiskey Hangover (which is quite overplayed on the local rock station, but not as bad as that "Ladies and Gentlemen" shitstain that was only ok to begin before they decided to play the holy fuck out of it).

Rammstein, Fear Factor, AC/DC, REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Dokken, Iron Maiden, Crush 40 (the 3D Sonic games had some decent songs, at least the first 3 did), Judas Priest, White Snake, Foreigner, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.

I also listen to some Michael Jackson and classic 8/16-bit tunes like Sonic 2 stuff and Legend of Zelda.

The lack of orchestral music as an option saddens me greatly.

Admittedly, I don't listen to much classical music - not a matter of preference as much as sheer ignorance. I don't really know where to start and can't seem to find more than one or two tunes from each composer.

A good source of orchestral stuff is, of course, video game music. Final Fantasy, Shadow of the Colossus and so forth are quite good. Ikaruga, too. Been listening to Touhou and remixes thereof recently, though. Here's an example that just about everyone likes.
If you're looking for orchestral classical, I'd start with Tchaikovsky; he's my overall favourite for orchestral pieces.
Touhou music is awesome as well. ^^

All kinds of music, but I mainly listen to Voltaire. I don't really know how to classify him, but then again I don't particularly want to.
Here are a couple of my favourites:

Why?

It pisses me off when people like you - by that I mean the stereotypical "rocker" who can't see past the end of his fucking band t-shirt - say things like "rap isn't music" or something to that degree.

Hello ladies and gentleman,

It's kind of unbelievable that there isn't already a thread like this, even if there are tons of threads with the word "music" in it.
Well, since the topic pretty much sums it up, I'm not going to add a lot of information.

So: What music do you listen to? Do not only vote, but comment, and tell my why you like it!
It's your choice if you're going to be whether very specifically or just name the very basic kind of. It is also very appreciated to name a handful of examples.

I am very interested what taste of music the escapist folks have, so please, feel free to tell us anything about music you want!

I'm going to start,

Well basically I don't "hate" any kind of music (I really dislike Rap though), but I mainly hear music from the Electronic genre, such as House/Electro, Trance, Hardstyle and all that kind of stuff.
Why? Uhm I'm not quite sure but I just love the way it sounds. You can relax to it, but you can also shake to it.

So, tell me your opinions! :D
I have pretty similar tastes to yourself, I do like some rap though, I've never found an entire genre of music that is completely devoid of merit... except j-pop/rock... urrggghhh.

Pretty much all of the music I listen to now days has an electronic touch to it, Noise Rock like HEALTH who use heavy distortion on the guitars and hold vocoded mics up to the speakers just to make some insane feedback noise.

Right now I'm listening to Four Tet There is Love in You which is like experimental trance music. Not ussually my thing but I'm giving it a go.

All favourite though has to be Crystal Castles, I've never felt about a band before like I have them. Their live performances are insane as well, she doesn't crowd surf so much as walk upright on people's hands. How fucking epic is that?!

EDIT: the poll results are pretty much exactly as I expected.

whoa dude chill! im just happy that not as many people as i originally thought like hip hop so that i wont have to listen to it as much throughout my life. there's no need to make personal attacks against people who have different opinions.

I listen to that old school rock from bands like Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Rolling stones(of course),..... Why? Because they had talent when they made the songs unlike most of the new music today.

Thanks! I do like Chaikovsky (Mozart's pretty good too, though neither really compares to Bach - partly since I'm a fan of pipe organs), but the problem is more that Youtube only seems to have about two bits of music from each composer. Often split up, too.

Anyway, thanks again for the help.

I love symphonies. My favourite of all time would have to be Beethoven's 7th, 2nd movement 'Allegretto'. Fucking awesome. Loved it even more after studying it at school, if you can believe that. And opera. But that's probably something to do with the warm fuzzy feeling i get where my cold dead heart usually resides when playing them in orchestra at school. I miss that. *toddles off to find a new orchestra to play with*
I know the feeling from my music classes back in the days, when I was playing music that I normally wouldn't listen to myself, it suddenly made me enjoy it a lot more.
