Nintendo has a lot of options. If they're smart, they'll do them all at once (by working on them over the course of the next few years and releasing them all at once).
First: Valve-like approach to community. Nintendo is very anti-customization of their products (see Wii Menu Updates, Homebrew, and Smash-Minus Mods). My point is that if Nintendo wants to win back the gaming crowd, let the people who want to mod games and customize them do it. On top of that, don't be so selfish with IPs. So what if a website hosts pictures of Pokemon in an unreleased game. It's Nintendo fault they got out in the first place AND it's not like a picture of a Pokemon who's name will change in the American version is going to make a difference to whether I buy a game or not. In short, Nintendo, become less paranoid.
Second: DLC en MASS: Don't worry about blu-ray, CD, movies, or anything. Sticking to games is the smart idea because it keeps Nintendo cheap, and that's one of the few selling points Nintendo always had going into the console race. However, applications that allow consoles to do that stuff being sold separately is an excellent idea. Not everyone is going to want to buy them so there is no need to force them on everyone right out of the box with so much expense. However, there are techno-freaks who want that much stuff all in one thing. Let them have the option.
SIDE NOTE: A lot of Nintendo's games could also be improved with DLC and other online goodies. Nintendo just doesn't seem to grasp the whole idea of the Wifi network they were so proud about when the Wii finally went wireless (as we saw with the problems Metroid Other M had).
Third: Going off what I just said, Nintendo needs to improve their hardware to do the online thing better as well as improve graphics. 3rd party developers overlook them for those two reasons so they get stuck with shitty kid-games and Nintendo-only games. While the latter is great, the former wastes time and resources better spent on real games for the people with the disposable income to actually buy the games.
Fourth: Don't release motion controls until ALL the bugs and kinks are worked out. I'm opposed to buying the Motion-Plus for this reason alone. If Nintnedo delayed release, the product could have been improved. Instead, they released it before it was truly ready to do what they said and all they got were complaints.
Fifth: Reboot franchises. I'm not talking about crappy sequels or remakes. I mean reboot the franchises with something new and different. Maybe change the perspective from Mario to Bowser or from Link to Zelda. Maybe have Pokemon go MMO on us. Maybe have a new StarFox game or a new F-Zero game. Hell, we haven't seen a new franchise since Pikmin and most of us are just "meh" with it. (Btw, Kid Icarus was a nice start. Go from there).
Why do I feel like I've posted this stuff somewhere else before... oh wait... I have.
