I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit because 1.) Windows 7 is awesome and 2.) I want to take advantage of having 6GB of RAM.

Though I do use several 32 bit Operating Systems for benchmarking (like Super Pi in XP 32 bit).

I have a computer with Windows 7 and one with Linux.
Both are awesome.

Mac OS X. Because whenever I am forced to use a PC, I am reminded how much I hated Windows. I mean it's ok, but Mac OS is just so much easier to use.

Open your start menu, type in "UAC" and then disable "User Account Control" if that's pissing you off.

I use Windows 7 Professional 64-bit because:

1) Macs are too limiting
2) Linux feels like I'm using Windows 98 all over again (I understand that it's useful and awesome and free, but it's just not my thing.)
3) Because it was only 40 bucks with the Microsoft Student thing. It was the same price for Home Premium, Professional, and for either 32 or 64 bit. I also found out I could have gotten it for free now, but I wanted it right away.

Vista wasn't as bad as everyone said it was, but I really did like the features they were showing for Windows 7.

I know that but it mysteriously turns back on.

Really? Really? do you ACTUALLY use 6gb ram? and why do you need 64 bit? its marketing.

"The frustrating thing about 64bit is peoples misunderstanding of it. The reality is, unless an application needs more than 4GB of ram there is no need to make it 64bit.. it actually hurts.. as it ends up using more ram (64bit pointers instead of 32bit pointers). All of the enhancements 64bit would normally get (wider memory instruction sets) have been available for YEARS under the names of 3dnow, SSE, SSE 2, etc... So the perfomance boost of being able to copy 64bits at a time (actually with those extra instruction sets we can copy 128bits at a time) are already available.. So 64bit is only useful for database, video, and 3d rendering, or any other app that REALLY needs more ram." - Urkle

W7 is vista with a new coat of paint and a few more shiny bits.

"what they should do is release vista sp1 with a new gui ad a few tweaks as W7" Windows 7 was my idea.

and I use W7Ult64. cuz I got it free. twice.

Windows XP. However, if I had a proper gaming rig I would have upgraded to 64-bit Windows 7 in a heartbeat. XP works for the gurgling mess of a computer I have right now.

I use vista because it came with the computer. I have had zero problems with it and I am the only person I have found who likes it.

XP. Never had problems with it for the 7 years I've had it. I had one crash, and that was simply because of a brownout. All drivers work with it, all drivers are usually ON IT, it's easy and simple to upgrade, I can run whatever game I like on it and Microsoft won't get on my ass, and it's easy to clear off all of the bells and whistles. It ships with less of it, by the way.

I do not uderstand. Why just have upgraded? You should have picked Windows 7 or simply have stayed with XP.

OT: Windows 7, it's just plain awesome, although I do have some compatibility and performance issues now and then, but not that bothering really. Actually my computer isn't that good, so I do not care. It would probably be the same if it was XP anyways.

I'm finding 7 quite lovely and have no plans to turn back unless my PC blows up and I have to return to an old 1gb rig.
