For once I swear to god I want to play or make a game that is an RPG that makes fun of other RPGs....it would be a great video game.

Many production companies nowadays do not want to make comedy games...but my gawd since they havn't been made in some time some1 could bring them back.

The "we thought you were dead" plot point to bring back somebody who should be dead. It could be easily avoided by simply leaving the characters fate unknown rather then showing them die or nearly die. I'm actualy OK with all the ones on that list if properly executed, except the obvious villian one. That one is just lame.

And something about the "This is a virtual world thing". Sometimes this can make great plots. If you have played the DDS games you probably know what I mean.
it worked for the matrix.

Amnesia.

Seriously. It stopped being okay to use that since PS: Torment, where it actually made sense.

I've seen only one good example of the hidden-villain thing.

Persona 3, Shuji Ikutsuki. It was reasonably clear to me that Ikutsuki would be a bad guy in some way, but he was never directly involved in SEES' missions, and he was pulled off so damn well.

'You are the chosen one and are coincidentally better than every one else!, in other words its all up to you and we will not help in any way shape or form.'

not something that is stupid or anything but how come we are always just a humble farmer/prisoner/blue haired manwoman without fighting skills until some nut tells us that we are the one
...

Actually, this particular theme is more of a "Fantasy/Sci-Fi" convention than RPG-Specific. Think about it: Lord of the Rings, Sword of Truth, ALL of the Shannara series, Eragon, Deathstalker, the list goes on and on and on.

Two notable exceptions are Song of Ice and Fire (save Deneris I suppose), where all of the characters are warriors to start with, and the Wheel of Time, where when faced with the whole "You're the chosen one, c'mon let's go" thing the main characters freaks and spends the next three books running like a ***** to avoid his fate.

Now, granted, most RPG games ARE fantasy/sci-fi (pretty much outside of dating sims 100%), so the same cliches apply, but I've had this exact same grumble about the genres for years.

the "omg character change he really is the bad guy" moment is always so cheesy although not encountered in good rpg's that often
There does seem to be a lot of these humble-->hero stories. Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fable 2 probably more I cant think of.

I wouldn't have been surprised if Auron from FFX ended up betraying us. He just looked so badguyish. I was very surprised he didn't.

I saw a gameplay video from a scrapped Duke Nukem Forever engine. Duke was inside this building (I guess he was trying to get out and fight the aliens), and this security guard was standing in front of what looked like the exit. The security guy turns to him and says "What are you gonna do? Save the world all by yourself?" I thought that was awesome.

Yes it is a good idea, but what about if you wanted to roleplay for instance a ... I dunno, humble lumberjack. Fighting off the armies of EVIL isnt very plausable for a man who wrestles bears and cuts down trees.

I hate how in certain MMORPGs, every single individual from the millions of players is "the chosen one". An MMORPG that doesn't centre around this would be great.
