Ian M Bank's Culture would be my first choice - truly is that a civilisation where technology is indistinguishable from magic...

I love Firefly, but living there could totally suck (unless you could hook up with Kayle... then HELL YEAH!)

Of the choices, Star Trek would be the nicest and most enjoyable, Terminator would be the most painful and shortest-lived, whilst Warhammer would just destroy your soul... I think I'll stick to the utopia, and leave the nutjobs to their dystopias :D

I'd be in the Freelancer universe. OR for those you who may have actually heard of it, in an asteroid field in Fragile Allegiance.

WAIT! Neuromancer!!! Shadowrun! Or even the Fifth Element universe if Ruby Rod wasn't still on air.

Firefly, of course. I want to join the crew of the good ship Serenity (after all, River's hot, Mal is cool, Jayne is just awesome, and being a space cowboy/thief/uber-cool-guy is just plain brilliant :D). Did I mention River's hot?

A poll I actually like! Star Trek all the way for me. People live in a socialist society that actually works, because somehow people aren't greedy anymore. No poverty, no sickness, and interesting jobs. You do have to wear those horrible uniforms that constantly ride up on you though.
actually, all of those problems still exist, but they aren't very serious because all you would need to do is call the starship enterprise, and then William Shatner or Patrick Stewart, (or whoever plays the captains in the other series) would have it all fixed in an hour, however, they can only solve one problem a week, so you would probably end up screwed over at some point.

I still voted for star Trek though...

On topic, Eve Online "future" would work fine...
^ THIS.

I suppose firefly's probably closest to that model. A distant 2nd best would be star trek

Hmmm I was torn between Mass Effect and Night's Dawn (I take it you mean the Peter F. Hamilton one?)

In the end I went for Mass Effect, simply because I don't want to run the risk of
being possessed by the souls of long-dead evil bastards, or dying and having my soul end up in the same place as aforementioned bastards to be picked apart in mind-rape for all eternity.

Though Night's Dawn has some awwweeeesssooooommmmeee tech....

Space western all the way. WH40K would just kill me, painfully, and reading Eye of Terror at the moment shows just how roungh chaos worlds have it.

Probably Star Trek. For reading and watching, I prefer Firefly and Warhammer 40k, but those are a bit too dangerous for actually LIVING in.
I was about to say the same thing. I would pick a "socalist utopia" over "grim darkness where there is only war" when it comes down to places to live. However the stories that come from the "grim darkness" are much more interesting.

I wasn't sure wether to go for starship troopers or '40K
I went Terran Federation.
Would you like to know more?
I'm guessing Starcraft right? (Don't hurt me if I'm wrong) I probably went too fast in the "think up a future" phase, but you can still tell us why you like it. :)
Whaaaaaa???
The Terran Federation's Network has a Link in the corner labeled 'Would You Like To Know More?'. and it is said alot in the movie (but not the book. It appears in at least one of the games.)

I don't know anything about starcraft :p
Now I remember. I just never thought that the guy in Starship Troopers were called the Terran Federation (only aw the film) but I do remember the 'Would you like to know more'
And yeah, obscure reference.

To be honest, a Star Wars-esque future is one that sort of makes sense.
What? A major superpower being attacked by 'just' terrorists? Rings a bell, doesn't it?
