I'd like Fallout 4 to take place in a post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland. Somewhere in the USA, perhaps.

I'm here all week, people!

OT: I don't really know - I sort of suck at geography and US geography + culture significance and such eludes me even more so. I picked LA in the poll because...dunno, seems interesting if it's set next to an ocean. Or it could be over at the east coast somewhere. Dunno, that's what I can tell but I'm up for whatever.

I would actually like it to take place in a more varied setting, maybe somewhere we could get past just seeing wasteland for hours and hours. Like maybe somewhere in the Midwest like around the Great Lakes or perhaps the Pacific Northwest.

Not being from the US, I have no idea about the difference between any of those regions, so it could be anywhere and I wouldn't care either way. I voted for the Commonwealth because it's the only thing I recognized from it being mentioned in Fallout 3, and I liked the idea of androids and advanced technology.

Boston then? I don't even know where that is.

Rumor has it Fallout 4 is going to be set in Boston.

Still, I'd like to see a Fallout somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, like Seattle. Just seems like an area that's pretty untouched by video games. I'm not an expert in Fallout lore though, so there's a fair chance the area I just mentioned is a crater.

To be honest I don't really care where Fallout goes just as long as it remains in the USA. The Americana vibe is a part of what makes Fallout special and contributes a lot to the franchise's identity if you ask me.

The Commonwealth sounded very interesting to me ever since I heard of it in Fallout 3. Out of the choices offered, this one interests me the most. However, it could be nice to see how things look in places outside of America.

Anywhere, so long as they would be willing to contract Obsidian to make the game. (please, please, for the love of writing, pleaaaaaaaaaase)

I do get why people want this to happen and I myseklf would welcome the change in scenery but Fallout is so closely tied to 50's Americana parody and satire that I just can't see it working well.

while i understand that i still think it can be done it would just be a bit different. i mean heck Fallout 3 was rather different in terms of tone from 1,2 and NV.

Sure we could just have the game under a name that isnt Fallout but then people would complain that it copied Fallout

Anywhere in Canada, so I chose Ronto. Considering the occupation and forceful annexation of Canada by the States before the bombs dropped, you have the making of an easy faction v. faction setup of the Canadian survivors and the remaining soldiers. You've got cold weather concerns, possibly throwing in snowstorms and blizzards as environmental factors. Mutated moose would be scary as fuck, and you'd also have yaoguai in several different species: brown bears, black bears, polar bears. And most important no motherfucking radscorpions!!!! Though they'd probably throw them in anyways like they did with 3, just to be a pain in the ass. Imagine an albino in the middle of a snowstorm. Yeah...

There's also a whole host of other wildlife they can mutate: badgers, opossum, wolverines, raccoons, rabbits(run away! run away! D:), wolves.

So we've got NPC factions, a cavalcade of mutated wildlife, and cold weather survival. I would play the fuck out of that game.

Somewhere larger than a single city. With an overworld map spanning an entire state, or several. And random encounters. And a Highwayman!

Small maps are fine; the DLCs do it, STALKER games do it, why does it have to be a single location and its immediate area, all compressed up awkwardly? Make each place important and interesting instead of filling the wasteland with a dozen of the same empty farms and office buildings. Make random encounters interesting little tactical situations instead of oh no, Legionary Assassins/Talon Mercs Again, Shoot Them Quick!

It just seems choosing one single city is de-evolving the series...

If Bethesda are doing it then Boston.

If Obsidian are doing it (unlikely due to their kickstarter) then the Boneyard.

Keep the two US coasts semi-separated as not to impinge too much on the other teams ideas.

I am terribly curious to see how other nations are faring during this time.

There are some locations like New Zealand, The Pacific Islands, Iceland and Greenland that couldn't have been viewed as threats during the nuclear war and are far enough away from the 'big dogs' that the fallout couldn't have spread that far.

The potential for these 'intact but hardly superpower' nations to suddenly find themselves in a position of complete stability and power and the choices they make given this power would be worth looking into.

That being said, The Commonwealth is an area I would like to see explored in more detail.

Where's Australia on this poll? ...In-fact, where's anywhere not in the US?

I'm voting Australia, simply because it would more or less be utterly perfect for a post apocolypse game. And if the thought of a mutant Kangaroo or a Rad Platypus doesn't make you smile...i dunno what will.

Really it is coming down to either Ronto or The Commonwealth. I'd sort of like a Fallout set in the NCR, with political chicanery as commentry on our own duplicity with (perhaps) the sundering of the Republic, but I doubt anyone else wants to go back to Shady Sands. Also Ed130's point about Obsidian is food for thought.

I guess the Commonwealth is going to have all manner of replicanty "who is the real monster here anyway?" horror and Cloud Atlas-esque moments with robots shouting about not being subject to criminal abuse whilst I shoot them with a rocket launcher. So you've got a plot and a theme right there.

What happens in Canada though? Canada gets annexxed and then there's all that hulabaloo in Alaska and then it goes boom. That's not really a fat lot to be honest. Yes you'd have the army and the natives still slogging it out, 300 years later, which could be quite good and you'd have the wilderness but is there really anything of any real narrative value in Toronto? Is there a great seat of power or learning or industry or hedonism? I am unaware of anything, but then I am very ignorant.

So I'm going with the Commonwealth.

Fallout 4: Beyond the Thunderdome would be brilliant but it will never happen. Fallout is about America.

A driving post-apocolypse game in Oz would be immense though.
