I would say that they're asking the wrong people for an apology. Modern Japan did nothing to them. Tell them to find the ones responsible and demand it from them.
However, the modern government is responsible for apologizing for the past government, we see this when the Pope apologized for the Crusades or when JFK apolgozied to the Japanese Americans who were sent to internment camps during WWII. If at the very least it issued an official apology the people afflicted would be happy, while instead they refuse and even add insult to injury by teaching their students that it wasn't as bad as it really was.

Why does the modern government bear any responsibility for the past government? Is not a government merely a body of people? And if a government itself is guilty of something, I would suppose that the responsibility would be transferred to its members, as a "group" as a concept cannot actually bear responsibility or have guilt. Only people can have responsibility or have guilt. The people then, that committed the Japanese atrocities are still the only ones responsible. The current people in charge of Japan had nothing to do with it.
Because they're the most recent form, they should at least apologize in behalf of the past government is basically what I'm saying since no one else really makes a difference.

Ok, I'll grant that the government shouldn't downplay atrocities committed by past governments. The modern government is guilty of that at least, and that is one thing which the modern government should be expected to apologize to.

But why apologize on behalf of the past government? What difference does it make if they do it, or I myself apologize to the Korean women on the old government's behalf?

how can anyone dish out ignorance?

Ignorance has nothing to do with being a douche-bag. There are plenty of educated douch-bags.

You're absolutely right, OP. This is the stupidest thing I have ever read and I feel stupid for reading it.

Faith in humanity fading.

That made me physically sick reading the sheer stupidity and lack of empathy shown by these people, the war was bad to everyone. I'm not sure I can understand what compels people to carry a grudge so far especially the "Peaceful Christians" who claimed God went and smited Japan for Pearl Harbour. Bad business all round in my opinion.

It's kind of funny, didn't the Americans in that link do what you're doing now? Judging an entire country for the actions of a few people?

That said, did anyone else find the top right post in the first link funny? I certainly did.

I don't blame them for holding a grudge, I doubt the Japanese liked America bombing them, and they probably hold a grudge the same as many people near Pearl Harbor did.

I hope I never meet these people in reality, I'd be too tempted to break their fingers.

My wish is to never meet those kind of people ever, other wise I'd feel the need to punch them in the face. Pearl Harbor, really? That's how you justify hundreds of dead people, and thousands that are suffering?

I...need to lie down, my head hurts.

If you're going to correct my spelling sweetheart, its 'Americans don'T', not 'Americans don'.'

If it was a hate comment, I'd wax eloquent about how their country is one of the worst to live in because they are all fat fatty fatensteins, or because their obnoxious gung-ho attitude is the one of the reasons the world is in a state of near constant warfare. Plenty of other Americans saw my post and not one was offended, so quit playing the injured party.
He has a point. Besides he tends to vent to me about my country directly ;] but then I do the same.

Actually some of us do. *an American who does spell harbour with a "u" as well as a few other words differently*

OT: Also, all I will say is a lot of Americans are misinformed idiots. Not all but a lot yes.

I wasn't correcting your grammar. Europeans spell harbour with a U that was the point...

edited for grammar
I didn't know there were certain terms of what anti-american hate comments must consist of. How foolish of my uneducated self!
