Poll: What type of animation do you prefer?

In yet another TV related thread. (I seem to have a thing for these) I present another question: What type of animation do you prefer?

Are you someone who prefers hand drawn animation: With it's older style, and great attention to detail?

Do you prefer CG: For more impressive visuals, and great atmosphere.

Or do are a fan of Flash animation: For it's sheer potential and because you like MLP: FiM.

Personally, I'm a die hard fan of hand-drawn animation. Mostly because every time I see hand drawn shows I see something that had a LOT of hard work and love put into it. Attention to detail is important, which is something I like. And because I'm still nostalgic for the days of the great 90s hand drawn cartoons like Batman: The Animated Series.

I'm not really a fan of CG, mostly because it doesn't seem like it's evolved enough to really look...good. Just about every time I see a CG show the action can be stilted (not sure if that's the right term) and difficult to follow, and the faces all look kinda lifeless. I think it needs to grow a bit more, flesh out it's flaws before I'm sold on the concept.

I've seen good and terrible examples of Flash animation. (I'm looking at you Johnny Test!!) But Newgrounds has some truly impressive works done in Flash. Not the least of which is Krinkels Madness series and it's numerous spinoffs. I think Flash animation has the potential to be a great animation format IF DONE CORRECTLY. Fucking Johnny Test! I loved that show back when it was hand drawn (the first season or so), but when it switched to Flash it just tanked. Hard!

So what animation styles do you all prefer? If I missed one above I apologize, these three are just the ones I know
best.

I have the most respect for traditional hand drawn, for the same reason you do.
It just took so much more time and effort.

CG depends. If the studio is trying to be ground breaking realistic, things tend to land in the uncanny valley (I'm looking at you Spirits Within). I don't mind those CG animations that have a unique aesthetic and follow the traditional 12 principals of animation. A little bit of exaggeration can do wonders for CG.

The big budget CG movies look much better than the TV shows. TV hasn't quite gotten there because of money and time restrictions, which is why so many animated TV shows are made with Flash.

That's a nice way of looking at it. But which style do you prefer? Or is the style of animation irrelevant to you, so long as the overall quality of the narrative, strength of the characters, and other factors are up to snuff?

Since there's no option for it, I'm going to say that I have no preference. As long as animation.

The only way I can say it is I want it to be good. As long as it's not cheesy or an eyestrain fine.

They can all look awesome, but I'm a sucker for a good hand-drawn animation. Unfortunately these are becoming quite rare these days in favour of CGI, at least in movies.

Mostly hand drawn as I'm fed up with CGI unless they used abit of it in the series like Ghost in the Shell and Tiger and Bunny. Sure Flash had been used in good ways but there are more hand drawn than it is to Flash (I mean most anime are still hand drawn).

While I do love me some CGI animation (Rango is like a 5 star dinner for the eyes) I must say that hand drawn does certain things miles better than any CGI I've ever seen. That's not saying CGI can't be just as good, I just haven't seen it yet in those areas I really like.

Flash is...okay. While I do like how MLP looks, it's nothing groundbreaking exactly. Maybe it's like CGI, and the great ones aren't out yet, I don't know, but I do know that right now, nothing of it really impresses me.

Hand drawn for sure. Venture Bros. is keeping it alive and is one of the best looking animated series I have ever watched.

I guess, well the use of CG in Legend of Korra was abit weird at first but I got used to it. Actually now I think about it, Justice League Unlimited and Avengers: Earth Mightest Heroes CG were bad (that episode in Prison 42 with those CG bugs).

Hand drawn, any day.

While I do enjoy some CG movies, it's incredibly overused these days.

Not a fan of flash animation. The puppet-like movements really bugs the hell out of me.

My personal favorite is well done stop motion, if only because I have done some of it in the past, and I can appreciate the effort that it takes to do it.

After that, it would be fully animated hand drawn (where they redraw all the characters for each frame, like in Loony Toons), and after that, extremely well done CG (Pixar quality, basically).

I detest poor animation of any kind, though, and I consider almost all flash animation to be poor animation. However, the actual content (story, characters, etc) is usually more important than the animation.

I don't dislike CGI, but hand drawn animation showcases the man hours and craftsmanship way better. CGI while also needing a lot of work and talent will always be filltered through a computer, taking away from the "hands on" charm.

Usually, it doesn't matter to me. I'm looking for good story/characters and not animation. The only exception to that rule so far was Resident Evil: Degeneration which looks AMAZING (as long as characters don't talk).

I kinda like the mix of styles present in Tron: Uprising, with a great amount of the show done in a hand-drawn style (or a good mimicry of it) but the more action-oriented sequences are done in CGI. Its got the unique and enthralling look about it. Flash is hit and miss: if you do it well, good for you. People like Egoraptor and Psychicpebbles on youtube do absolutely hilarious things with it. I was less than enthused by shows like MLP though, because sometimes the fact that they're using flash is painfully obvious. Maybe it's just the perspective here: one guy doing all of this crazy stuff and really hiding the flash-ness of his video with a lot of hand-drawn art(in the case of Egoraptor) just seems more impressive to me than a team of animators doing a flash cartoon and being blatantly obvious about it.

Lol! No kidding! Did you ever see Reboot when it was on Toonami? Now that show really shows it's age.

I might piss off a lot of people, but I thought that show looked horrendous from the get go.

It was riding the CGI high that was oh so prevalent back then, but like all the other shows that used it, it lacked the hardware and talent to make it look presentable.
