I'm a team player. My job requires that I spend most of time coordinating people and helping getting things together. My function might not be an outright leadership role, but it is an important auxiliary that no organization can exist without.

It also happens to be what I like doing.

So chances are, support.

But to be quite frank, I feel the classifications used here is somewhat vague.

Offensive and Ranged.

I tend to stick with the Archer/Huntard like characters cuz I love me bow n arrow.

Though my main Character in WoW was a Warrior. Yess,, melee will do as well!

Isn't tanking a supportive role?

I choose the Free Class System! When done right, this baby is the best thing that ever happened to gaming. At least, I've always believed so.

No really, I love that thing... I just wish more games would utilize it. I can play all versions if given enough time with them. I once played a Medic, then an Entertainer, then a Bounty Hunter, etc. I do however prefer an offensive role so I can take care of myself.

The best offense is a good defense. In saying that I like to be where the action is. Although I am a mix, in TF2 I always guard the documents, yet in MW2 I go in the the attack. Depends on the game really.

I'll play anything; it depends on the situation at hand. If they need offense, I go offense. If they need defensive classes, I fulfil that role. If they need support... you get the idea.

When it be up to me, I choose support.
That said, I play Hunter in WoW, which is sort of a mix of Offensive and Defensive, leaning either way depending on how well you can manage threat. Not very well, by the way.

That sounds groovy. Any game in particular use this?

Hmm, I see most here decide according to FPS standards. Well, to be a bit different (and because I don't play any multiplayer FPS games at the moment) I'll decide based on my LoL preferences. I'm (almost) always DPS or nuker, sometimes support/tank played offensively. Offence it is for me then! :D

I run forward and simply kill everything. Video games, sports, etc. And so far, that has never failed me.

One did, then some moron thought "Hey! I know just how to piss everyone off and kill quite a few of our subscription base! Take away the free class system and make them choose a class, then everyone can be Jedi!"

The thing about Jedi are that... they suck against an experienced Bounty Hunter. Also, it was considered a great honor to be a Jedi when you had to work your hardest for it, all the guys that did it way back when it was finding holocrons that would show you the way, yeah, all they got was the ability to glow in the dark and a robe, a robe that didn't help against the Bounty Hunters. They also took away the ability to dual class such as Commando/Bounty Hunter, I could no longer have a flamethrower and rocket launcher, I had to choose. Not even Sophie could choose between that. You couldn't even choose the skills you wanted anymore.

And that game was... Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided.

You see, you could be anything and even cross classes. You could choose what skill you wanted and follow your path to the class you desired and even revert at any time if you didn't like it. You could be a Weapon Crafter and Smuggler, an Entertainer and Commando. You could wield a sword or be a martial artist, you could change people's hair and eyes to make money, you could dance and ask for tips, you could purchase a house, place it where there's people wandering through and have saud people wander in and buy from an NPC you set up to sell gear you don't want or made. You could even decorate it by placing a couch upside down and on the ceiling if you wanted to, that was the kind of game it was. But not anymore.

I haven't seen a game like it since, Fallen Earth seems to have a free class system, but nothing like Star Wars Galaxy. May have been that everyone was their own unique self when it was around, you made this choice, you weren't cut from the same mold, etc. You could play as and create/design a freaking Wookiee, Bothan or Mon Calamarian -- three of the ten species you could choose. You can't choose your species in Fallen Earth, that's the only real reason I can figure it out as to why it's not the same, the lack of vibrancy that Star Wars Galaxies had; all of those species running around and working together, even speaking their own language until they opt to teach it to you.

I would like to see more games take up this free class system and environment in single player, but if they could pull it off like Star Wars Galaxy once did, then by all means make the MMO with it.

I'm on the Support side....

Sniper and the Medic are my favorite roles in Team Fortress 2. I'm usually a sniper or medic/healer in some way depending on the game at hand.

No, this doesn't mean I'm the prick waiting at the other team's spawn point for an easy kill.
I'd be half-way across the map with a rifle or behind an assault ready team-mate as a medic.

Snare and effect ranger usually.
Or scout in TF2.
I like speed.

Have you seen how guild wars tackles classes?

Mostly support, sometimes defense too. In Guild Wars I played mainly Monk and Mesmer, in WoW I played a Druid and in most other games I prefer a position in the second or third line rather than be the first person to get into the trouble.

It depends on the game, but here are my criteria: I want to be able to heal myself, and knife people, and if the game has a OHK sniper rifle I want that as well.

Yes, as I have played it, but you're still arbitrarily attached to a specific class. You're forced to pick one from the get-go, yet in Star Wars Galaxies you used to start out as a vagabond of sorts and worked your way up depending upon what weapons you used or what you wanted to do. You'd gain experience for rifles, for skinning animals, etc. And these would be to those specific things, you'd then spend that knowledge on skills that would boost your ability at being better at climbing hills/damage and accuracy or grants you a buff/attack.

I remember I could just sit in a bar as people chatted it up about grouping up or specific things for cities they created, they were all getting buffs from people playing music and dancing. I had flourishes set up with a macro - which was made in the game and allowed - as I chatted with my guild while my character would spin around and solo it out racking up the experience points for Entertainer. I loved the atmosphere that game provided, even if they were talking about the game, you felt as if you were really in a Star Wars bar sometimes.

I would say a mix between offensive and support. I think that's what the Red Mage is (or is that Blue Mage?)

I like knowing that if I can't take down a particularly huge nasty, I can at least buff the hell out of myself and party
