Poll: What version of windows do you use?

The thread about xcom not working on XP got me curious, what version of windows do most people on the escapist use? I'm guessing 7. Also though it's not in the poll (would've needed to ask a second question) are you getting windows 8?

I use windows XP and don't really have a problem with it. Runs games like RAGE and Saints Row the Third just fine though I am saddened by the loss of support for it and might have to get windows 7 in a few years.

The only issue I have with Win 7, is running older games. Pain in the arse to get some of them to run (KoTOR ... i'm looking at you).

I use Windows Vista. Hopefully in a few weeks time I will be getting a new laptop though and will have Windows 7, or 8. I don't know if there even is a Windows 8 yet, I'm that far behind on the times!

What Rawne1980 said. No problems with Windows 7 yet and don't plan on upgrading until maybe 9 if it looks good enough.

Oh, and if anyone is using XP, please get with the times, and if anyone is voluntarily using Vista, I salute you, as you have a higher pain threshold than I thought humanely possible.

I've heard Vista has gotten progressively less bad over the years. I never really used it, though, so I'm not exactly sure. I do like the visual design of the GUI, though, and I've done my best to emulate that on Win7.

OT: I use Windows 7, and I don't feel as if I'll be upgrading any time soon. I really like the OS, though I sorta miss XP's efficiency and kind of silly color scheme.

Why? Aside from a few new releases it runs everything I want, including older games that won't run on windows 7. I'll get windows 7 eventually in the next few years but till then it's XP for me.

Running Windows 7 64 bit, and will continue to do so for the next few years. I'm skipping Windows 8 as it is basically Windows 7 with a Tablet UI glued onto it for everyone who is enamoured with the idea of smudging up their screens with their greasy fingers. Hopefully MS will pull their heads out of their asses for Windows 9, or I'm going to have to look at hacking in a less crappy UI when Windows 7 finally hits obsolescence.

Oi! I use XP because thats what i've got. I'd happily go back to 98SE which was a pure joy for me to use...

I still use the 32 bit version of Vista that came with my PC when I bought it, I have no clue how to upgrade it (on a legal way) so I don't bother.

Why? Aside from a few new releases it runs everything I want, including older games that won't run on windows 7. I'll get windows 7 eventually in the next few years but till then it's XP for me.

Because it causes a load of extra work for everyone developing software, and I hate having to test stuff in XP. 7 is easier to use and if there are really applications that won't run in 7, it's always possible to get a virtual image of XP and run it from within 7.

XP was a relatively decent OS but it's no longer supported and hasn't aged well.

Both my laptop and desktop run Windows 7 Home Premium 64. At work, it's a blend of XP and 7 but the few XP machines are short on life. They'll be replaced early next year.

But...but...I do use XP. I have it on a VM which I run inside Linux, so I can play some games without having to reboot. It's not as resource intensive as 7 and I mostly run old-ish games, like Dungeon Keeper, Worms, and Might and Magic on there. Don't make me feel bad that I do this.

I'd agree here, though. Vista has caused me pain and grief, beyond what I think appropriate for any OS.

OT: I'm dual booting 7 and Mint. I also have XP on my home desktop which my parents use, because they are used to it. I might move them over to a newer OS soon.

I've just been on such a retro binge playing games like Master of Orion 2 and Civil War Generals 2. Also I know for a fact I will not be getting windows 8, used the preview version at work and the lack of a start button is something Microsoft is going to hell for.

I use Windows 7 64 bit as it's pretty good for gaming. I would have preferred Windows XP, but it simply isn't powerful enough these days. And for those situations when I need to run an old game, I either have compatibility mode, which has worked in 90% of cases for me, but when even that fails I have a Windows XP Virtual Machine, and all the old games run on that.

I built my comp when Vista was new, I like it just fine but apparently 7 is terrific. I'm considering upgrading to 7 once 8 comes out to take advantage of the price drop.

Windows 7 x64, didn't buy a dx11 card for nothing :3 that and with reasonable hardware win 7 runs as fast or even faster then xp.
And another thing, while the x64 version of xp had some quirks, win 7 is really nice.
Wont be making the upgrade to win 8 soon, unless it brings actual improvements, in that case i must find a fix to kill metro.

XP on my Desktop (though it's still multi-booted with Kubuntu). I've built a number of machines running 7, though... and all I have to say is, they really need to work on their X86 emulation for the 64 bit version. Until WOW64 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64] stops sucking ass, I'm not using 64-bit Windows. Thankfully I've managed to get ahold of Win7 32-bit recently, so my parents don't have to deal with that crap.
