Windows 7, 64 bit.

The only issue I have with Win 7, is running older games. Pain in the arse to get some of them to run (KoTOR ... i'm looking at you).

I mostly use 7, but I have a "living room PC"* that runs the trial of 8. It is a pain to try and "do" anything with 8 but once you have it all set-up it is pretty good for TV, playing games, or watching Media. I'm still hoping they bring back the Start button with a Service Pack though.

*[small]I'd call it an HTPC but with a GTX560 and a Yorkfield Quad it isn't exactly aimed at just Home Theatre.[/small]
Stardock have a program called start8 that adds your start menu/button back.

I mainly use OSX Lion, but when I absolutely need to use Windows I'll boot up XP. Although now that 8 is out, I assume copies of 7 will start going on clearance, so maybe it's time to upgrade.

I am tragically stuck with 7.
Tis' a mighty shame as 7 is the worst OS BigHard has ever made. (I've used a bit of everything from MS Dos onwards)
It almost feels like BigHard's attempt to make an Orange.

Windows 7 x64. 8GB of RAM here. Enough for now.

definitely an improvement from Vista! I had the bug where it would hang if you ran Windows update & the OEM never gave me the install disk(the Vista system was from Argos before I got my shit together & built this bad boy)
I've only encountered 1 old game I had to use the Win XP VM for (Dungeon Keeper 2); Just about anything else can be fixed by compatibility mode & a little trial & error.

I built this thing to play games & kick ass at it(I am one of those freaks who value both graphics & high framerates in equal measure, no matter what the game - so hate on me, whatevaaaaa, you would if you could & ya know it)

There is no reason whatsoever I can think of to get Win 8, it is totally designed for tablet computers & brings nothing new in terms of DirectX(gaems!!) or functionality in any meaningful sense.

As for WOW64 having problems? Wha?
You ARE using 64-bit drivers on your 64-bit OS, right??

Awesome. Thankyou. Windows 8 is fixed...and not by MS.

Up until about three weeks ago I was still on XP SP3. Got a sexy new tower running Win7 64-bit and dear god this OS is amazing.

Because it hasn't been officially released yet.
Well, I think this depends on how you define "officially release". I'm a student and thus already could have it (if it wouldn't suck) through DreamSpark Premium (formerly MSDNAA). Given that this is an official Microsoft platform,it won't get any more official IMO.
General Release date is Oct 26th, but there was several preview builds available to the general public floating around.
