My vote went for 64, cause of Majora's Mask/Ocarina of Time, but the generation that had the most fun games were easily the 8 bit era.

16/32-bit. There are likely at least 100 awesome SNES games I have yet to play (including Japan-only releases), and I've had it since its release. Still do.

Definitely the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox generation. The period of my life during which I was not reading any gaming magazines or websites falls into this generation, so it goes without saying that I played quite a few games that most would have called "godawful" (Sonic Adventure DX/2: Battle, Enter the Matrix, Street Fighter EX3). Without reviews or online forums to color my opinions, though, I never really saw the flaws that seemed glaringly obvious to everyone else.

I'd spend hours collecting only red chao drives, alternating between Sonic and Shadow stages, to perfect my Neutral Power Type Chao, never thinking about how easy it was to be killed by poor controls or weird camera glitches.

I would play Street Fighter EX3 for hours on end, figuring out how to segue between combos, never realizing that the game was apparently vastly inferior to it's flagship cousin, Third Strike: Street Fighter III.

Simply put, it was back before I got critical and jaded about gaming. Even if the game was 90% crap, if it was fun for the other 10%, I was satisfied.

It also doesn't hurt that this was the first generation to introduce backwards compatibility and ports, making most of my favorite games from the NES, SNES, PSOne and N64 available in some form, usually with enhancements and bonus materials to boot.

To this day, that generation is the one from which I have the most games (and mostly 100% complete save files to accompany them), and the one I will always believe to be the greatest.
