I can't choose man, I love them all. If I was to narrow it down it would be between The Fellowship and Two Towers. Maybe it's Saruman and his Uruk-hai.

If you made me choose I might plump for The Two Towers, 'cause you know, Ents!

The Two Towers. Doesn't have to deal with either the over-long intro of FoTR, or the over-long ending of RoTF. Or that annoying romance thing between Aragorn and Arwen that seems to go on forever. Granted, it doesn't have the charge of the Rohirrim or Minas Tirith in it, but it's still my favourite by a narrow margin. Story-wise, I think all three are equal, just the later films have more battle scenes as well.

The first one for me. I'd never read or watched anything that really fell into the "fantasy" realm before. I had a friend try to explain the books to me once and they sounded like the stupidest things ever written. Elves, dwarves, wizards....just stupid.

Then that movie came out about six months later...

I called him up and apologized, read the books (including the Silmarillion) and have the complete box set. So I have to vote for the first one.

The Rohirram arriving at Minas Tirith in the third one though is my favorite moment however.

The first one, it's the only one that tried to remain close to the book. The second one was so far off the map it ended up on the other side, and the third one as a consequence also sucked.

Seriously PJ, not only are there Wood Elves at Helm's Deep but they're BLONDE? And Andúril is not forged until the freaking war is nearly over?

If I didn't know the book though, it'd be 2.

The first one, without a doubt. The following two were just brainless action movies in my opinion.
OT: The third. Yes the ending may be 45 minutes long, but it makes me cry every time dammit!
i'm not the only one!!!!

My favorite was The Two Towers mainly because of the epic battle at Helm's Deep.

Return of the King follows it in "my poll".

I prefer The Fellowship of the Ring. I enjoyed the lighthearted beginnings in the Shire, and then the build up as the story grew steadily darker. While the ending battle actually happens at the beginning of The Two Towers novel, it was a great way to end the film.

The Two Towers. To me it seems more streamlined than the other two, as it doesn't have to worry about all the set up of the Fellowship of the Ring, or deal with all the endings for every single character like Return of the King.
I've never liked the Two Towers as much as the other two, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Return of the King is simply epic!

I choose the third, no matter how much I see it I always get a tingle up my spine and goosebumps when the Rohan cavalry make that first charge. I think that the Battle of Osgiliath with the orcs sneaking in is also very well done. Overall they all are really great films and its very hard to choose one.

Two Towers. Loved Helm's Deep, plus for some reason I am attached to the scene of the Ents destroying Isengard.

honestly...I really don't know
they're all amazing works, and have strengths in their own ways that just mesh together perfectly
like I didn't grow up a fan of the novels and such, but just watching the films...how can you not like this
sometimes I look back and wonder how psyched I woulda been had I been a LotR geek when the movies came out haha
(Star Wars was my childhood rather)

I just imagined it being 1 huge movie. That'd be awesome.

I chose Two Towers. The Trio of Aragon, Legolas and Gimli is just hilarious. And the Final Battle. Every Director should look to it for awesomeness.

I also consider all three to be different parts of the same movie.

Oh and I'm also upset that there's no option for the Rankin Bass version :p
