For me it was VI, back when they called it III on the Super Nintendo. I stopped playing them after XII kinda left me flat. If I wanted to play in that world, I'd go back to Final Fantasy Tactics.
EDIT: The poll wouldn't let me list them all, so I bunched them by system.

The first final fantasy i played was 6 remake on GBA. I loved it. I've played all of the final fantasy's, but they have gotten really shitty lately.

FF7 if I recall correctly, back then it was the bees knees but now I just don't have the tolerance for these things.
I love their over the top style but the mystery infinity, alternate universe turn based combat and characters that make me want to strangle kittens are just not welcome in my games.

So now I mostly leave JRPGs well alone.

Well I did play Final Fantasy 1 on NES way back when. I didn't get far. Like many however I really got into the series (and JRPGs) in general with FF7. Then I moved back to the SNES games after loving it so much. From that point forward I've gotten every single Final Fantasy with the exception of 11 and 14 on their release date.

My first FF was FFVIII, at the time I was too young to understand it and didn't finish but I enjoyed it some much. My first FF I finished was FFXII, then I went back and played the older ones, FF6-FF10-2, my favourite is FF8 followed my 10 and I hated 13 so didn't bother with 13-2.

I dont play JRPGs anymore because I've been put off the genre as there are many crap games, and Ive started to enjoy WRPGs more, but I'm hoping Persona 5 and FFversus can get the genre back on its feet again.

well the poll was a missing out the game I played which was FFXIII-2 which I only played around 5 hours before I was looking for an excuse to stop playing. I found the whole of the setting and the turn based combat as well as the characters lacking any interest. Although Lightning seemed pretty cool. This is the first final fantasy game I ever played.

The first one I played was IX, I loved that game so much. My cousin showed it to me and I still have a PS memory card full of just that game.

I have VIII and X but after that I kind of lost interest. I didn't like X-2 and I've had XIII since it was released and I still haven't finished it. I just never got into it, you never really had to actually do anything, the game basically played itself.

I might give XIII-2 a go though.

Final Fantasy X, and I never actually finished it.

Nah one was good enough for me, they are too complicated

Hmm...if I'm remembering correctly, it was X, then I got 1+2 for the GBA, and 3 and 4 for the DS. Then I got a copy of FF7, then I got XII. Eventually I picked up a copy of X-2. Somewhere in there, I picked up copies of 5 and 6 for the GBA. Only recently have I played 8 and 9, and I have yet to play XIII or XIII-2. As I can't afford a PS3, I'll probably never get around to playing them. I've never played 11, though I have heard good things about it. I never played the original FF Tactics or War of the Lion, but I have played FF Tactics Advanced and A-2. I've played Chocobo Tales, but none of the other Chocobo games.

I saw my friends older brother fighting Sephiroth's third form, One winged angle blasting in the background and I throught it looked cool. A year later a friend was talking about how good FF X was and I told him how 7 looked good but I had never played an FF and he lent me 9. I loved it and got my own copy.

After that I got 8 then found a copy of 7 and got that as well then got 10. To this day 4 of my favorite games, 9 being my favorite and I still play them. In fact I am currently playing 9 again.

Only problem with still playing them is that it makes me realise how bad X-2, 12 and 13 are compared to the old ones.

The first game I played was seven, and I still return to it occasionally. The last I played was eleven, and it is probably the worst MMO I've played to date.

Started with 7, loved it, moved onto 8, loved that too but then tried 9 and just couldn't get into it. Went back and checked out 2 and 3, liked them, but just couldn't enjoy any of the newer ones after 8.

I think thats partly because the stories in the Final Fantasy series tend to be pretty epic and involving and these days I just dont have the hours to commit to a game. Bit of a coincidence but I was actually looking at the new FF game in Blockbuster today... plumped for Lollipop Chainsaw in the end though.

Final Fantasy 12. It was absolutely fan-tastic! Then I played 7, 10, Crisis Core, and 13. of these, 13 was the worst.

First one was Final Fantasy VIII, at a friends house. Later on bought it myself and played it to death. Haven't played it for probably ten years now though. Don't really replay any other games from the series either. After FFX-2 I've felt a bit cheated by the series.
Bought FFXII, FFXIII and awaiting FFXIII-2 to arrive however, so I'm a bit of a hypocrite.

FFXII. Someone introduced me to IV, I played a bit of that, and then I played XII properly. After that, I played through VI, VII, IX, and X.

My first was III for the DS, but I had played X and VII at friends houses. I loved the games and love them still, easily my favorite video game series.

The first I played would probably be VII or VIII.
The first I finished was X.
After the disaster that was XIII, I gave up on the series, though my faith had wavered with X-2 and XII.
