Far too realistic IMO, while the other GTA games MAY of tried to be realistic, they did so to a point ONLY in the gameplay, but kept it very cartoony and the like at the same time, Rockstar really need to realize that we play GTA to dick around for the hell of it, maybe to go from rags to riches, to try to dick around, but be annoyed from the phone, annoying car physics, etc and then go from rags to slightly better rags, that's what made GTA fun, the complete unrealness of it, in what other game could you be sent straight from jail to become the owner of the city? Or from a no-name hoodlum to flying a Military Jet and owning 3 entire citys and sharing one casino?

From a cheesy, yet fun chaos machine the series turned into gritty realism(of course for a GTA game). Even the usual colours gone into something we see outside.

Plus, as a PC gamer, I find the conversion horribly wrong.

You forgot "it wasn't fun". They'd made so much effort to make it realistic and gritty and whatnot, that any fun whatsoever had been whitewashed from the game. Gone was crunching eighty people under your tank; gone was crashing a plane into a crowd of old ladies; gone was the flying car cheat; gone was remote controlling a toy helicopter and gunning down policemen. Everything fun about the series had been singled out and excluded.

You forgot an option for us PC folk. It was an extremely bad port at launch. I don't know if they've fixed any of the issues since then.

There wasn't really anything "wrong" with it (except for that fucking phone system.) its just that everyone gave it such high scores and such positive reviews for a pretty average game.

Nothing particularly wrong with it, but nothing that really stands out in anyway.

' hey nico its your cazan!' and it looked like you covered GTA 3's world with shit because that game (when you didn't get glitches and it was the glitchiest game ever!') had lots of color and fun while GTA 4 looked like crap and i had sooooooo much fun hurling myself out of a car window onto and old lady or flying a helicopter through the streets into moving cars the flying into the air team rocket style

now I voted that its missing a tank....and it is one of the reasons that I like the previous GTA's, that you can steal a tanks and go bat shit, ape scat, until you get nuked!

that aside, I finished the missions and thought: " great that was a laugh" and expected to find more inline game missions, but instead you hunt around finding crap missions that involve you doing petty chores e.g. following people, a quick assassination or doing somebody a small favour.

That lead me to realise that GTA has become SIMS will free will, a large amount of weapons and the consequences of blowing peoples heads off: e.g. getting nailed by the AI.

thats ok, but not for me, I never liked SIM games and after completing I too did feel the game was somewhat empty. I'm sure there are people who like pointing nico around and dolling him up and sending him on his way to meet his pals, possibly stealing a car on the way.

..but seriuosly, if you have completed it and just play it to keep nico in his friends good books, then you need some social therapy in the form of a night out on the razz!

other than that its is a well built game, other than the odd bug (like when I blew a guys head off and was told to pick up his loot, the loot was in the wall!), its not bad.

Controls were all right, I chose the Phone System due to how every 10 minutes my GOD DAMN COUSIN calls to go to "hang out" and I lose friendship points if I turn him down.

And do we do something amazing and fun that is only possible in a sandbox crime sim with zero consequences? Something like mindless vandalism, street races, or even paintball shooting that would at least be benefit to my combat skills?

No, we go and play Bowling. A game that isn't even fun on the Wii. Strip club is kinda fun the first go but low polygon boobies get boring after a time, especially since you never see any real interesting stuff, just bikini shows. I have google image search for that.

Girlfriends are also pointless if you don't ever get to see any payoff. Girlfriends should be partners in crime not time wasters.

I mean I wouldn't mind these random hanging out if:
a) I establish contact and I don't lose stat points for turning them down, and
b) The activities were way more fun and refined skills that are useful for actual missions, like driving, shooting, bombing, flying, etc rather than stupid bowling

Phone is actually quite a fun interface, I love how as the police are surrounding me guns blazing I am running and have got my phone out trying to text a cheat... so GTA.

Umm... I can't think of any major problems.

When it rained, it was really really laggy though :)

But that was just about it.

All and all a good game, and I really liked the characters.

The only downside was there are no flyable planes! Why is this not in the poll?

That was hilariously spot on.

GTA4 suffers from what I would call the "4th sequel syndrom". Other sequels that have sufferd from this affliction are MGS4, Indy 4 and Die hard 4. However Resi 4 remained completely unaffected.

No Character Cuztomization
I don't know what game you're playing. Unless you mean the single player character, of course.

The game had so much going for it, but it had so much that it did wrong. The city is pretty dull; though having more color than most people say, it still doesn't change the fact that it's a bunch of buildings that you can't get into. The physics are "realistic," that meaning everything is made out of brick and things can still fly hundreds of feet -- only when you don't want them too. The story was mildly engrossing, but not too great, and I'm not even going to talk about the cell phone. The multiplayer added some signature stupid fun, but I didn't get too much out of it. Summed up; the game was fun for a while, not anymore.

It's hard to try for realism when the internet cafe is called TW@. I never wanted cars that handle like arse and shooting controls that reqire more than a right thumbstick and a trigger.

In short, it wasn't Saints Row. It CERTAINLY wasn't Saints Row 2.

I think maybe add more content, like buying a business like in Vice City and maybe add a casino like in San Andreas etc.

Overall i really liked GTA IV :)

I hope the next one is set in London[/quote]

I wish that it had car customization..other than that this game is perfect.. the driving and flying is so realistic finally..

It became incredably less fun in my eyes when I realized I couldn't spawn a tank and murder everyone.

Add in the fact it sucked out all the color, the hilarious action, and the fact that it somehow took the fun away from adding in cheat codes (still don't know how it did that)

You know, being realistic doesn't make it fun.

My biggest problem with GTA4 was the fact that you didnt get anywhere. When you finished you didnt have a mansion and enough gang members to start your own private army. You were just another person living in the city. I always come to GTA expecting zany characters with extreme mental problems. My favorite mission in all of the GTA series was the one in vice city where you met up with a guy making moonshine who subsequently blew himself up and the fumes made you high as hell. The guy just randomly splurted stuff about flying fish and then bitched at you for brining him to the hospital. It just was the perfect gta scenario.

4 lacked this, the characters never really won me over and I never felt any sort of love for any of them. Especially the emo gangster guy that bitched and moaned every single time you met with him. I cant remember his name but I know his bonus was that you could call in two guys for backup. The Irish guys werent to bad and if anything were the best characters in the game that really brought up the classic GTA brand of maladjusted nutjobs who just enjoyed the act of destruction and the added bonus of getting paid. There are so many little things that dissapointed me in the game. True it was a gem and it was a wonderful game just it wasnt GTA.
