It was boring! I played for an hour, then got off to do my homework.

I NEVER DO MY HOMEWORK.

All I did in the game was wander around, escort some lady to a bowling alley, then buy a pair of shoes.

Every time you would come to a complete stop, Niko would have to lean forward a bit until he got running. Realistic, and minor I know, but it can be the difference between death and near-death when Niko scales a wall, then gets to the top, then stands there..... Fucking annoying, and the phone system was irritating, caused me to die once.

I loved the game all the way up until I beat it. Then I was done with it. Good story, fun gameplay, but the world didn't have the appeal to stick around in.

The way I see it, they made the driving a chore, and because driving is 70% of the total gameplay, 70% of the game became about as enjoyable as raking leaves. The other 30%? Not nearly worth the price of admission.

Sold my copy on eBay for $15, and I haven't looked back since.
I got around this by taking cabs most of the time. Really cuts down on driving. :)

They were too serious. They forgot that making it /fun/ is the #1 priority.

Saints Row 2 didn't take itself too seriously. It let you do all the crazy stuff that the GTA franchise USED TO offer. Zero Punctuation review was spot on.

I liked GTA4, it was a great game! I just had more fun with SR2. Which is weird, because I would have expected this kind of fun to come from the GTA franchise who had already provided it in earlier games!

cars handling being all "realistic" and unfun, annoying characters, mediocre story, annoying missions,

its strengths as a sandbox game overcome its faults, but it is far from a perfect game

Every 5 minutes..*ring* Hey cousin wanna go bowling?....*ring* Hey Niko! want to go on a date?....that gets annoying after a while
After a while? It got annoying the first damn time it happened.
Whats really annoying is how they start hating you every time you decline.I'm just glad they don't call you in missions as I recall.

I liked it, and I really didn't mind the phone. Since you can skip them anyway so whats to complain about

Uh, yes they do. They call every damn time you come in their area. No matter what you are doing some women calls you on the cell and starts yammering about some retarded ass bullshit. Man, why do I want that in a game? So very very lame.

I thought the game was fine the way it is. Gameplay mechanics a bit more realistic than before and I finally could sympathize with the protagonist. Niko Bellic isn't just another criminal who's after drugs and all the cash in the world, he's out for vengeance on the traitor in his squad during the war.
sums up my thoughts exactly.

I didn't hype the game though, so that may have been one reason I had fun with it instead of being disappointed (WAR is what did that to me).

As far as I've played it - there were no gangs! No frenzies. I mean like, wtf? Frenzies were a LOT of fun. And doing group-attacks on some enemy gang with your fellaz was amazing! Playing GTASA atm and compared to the few hours that I spent in GTAIV... SA is better in terms of fun. Though you can't underestimate the new fun stuff in GTAIV, but it can't replace what's been removed...

There were several things wrong in my opinion. Not that I don't enjoy the occasional killing spree... But there was one thing that pissed me off above all else - the fucking phone. Of all the aggravating things I've seen in a game, 'getting calls' every two minutes for stuff I don't care about, and which try but fail to 'immerse' me further into the game, has to be the worst.

Lack of characters, it was not funny to go on vicious killing sprees without the feeling of actually killing.

This was by far the shittest game I have ever bought. Overhyped rubbish.

Maybe the development team thought that looking at all the stuff that made the older games cool......and then removing it was a good idea but it just left us with a boring experience.

You start the game and are won over by graphics and then realise its just a bland repedative experience. " hey cousin! lets go bowling and then chase some dude in an unresposive car for the 10000000000 time".

Lets just hope they dont shit all over Max Payne as they did this.

I thoroughly enjoyed GTA IV. Yes, I prefer San Andreas, but I found that there were vastly different ways to screw around in GTA IV as compared to the other GTA games.

The phone never became a huge issue for me. The city also felt so much more alive than it had ever been in the other GTA games. It was a departure, but I thought that it was an enjoyable one.

It suffered from Dead Rising "Otis" complex, where your phone is always ringing with annoying useless info. If it was less frequent (1/20th the amount) then it'd be fine but every time I'm in a high speed police chase SURELY on every news channel with blocks on fire and hundreds dead, my freakin' cousin wants to go bowling, SURE why not Roman.
