People are always telling me why they hate halo but I want to know why and ill be very dissapointed if all of the complaints are the douches on the XBL (the douche comment is aimed at the 8 year old teabagers and people who rage and say what are you doing give me the sniper rifle and get out of the tank why did you shoot me) sorry to those who where offended

Everybody is entitled to thier own opinion, and that includes me and the 'douches' you find in XBL. Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with the Halo franchise itself since it offers a compelling story which I adore, but people often overlook the story and pin the game down on the gameplay. Granted the gameplay isn't as striking as any FPS, but it could have at least 'Evolved'

Hard to say, it seems everyone who doesn't like it dislikes it for different reasons.

The general word around people that I know personally is that they reckon that Halo's campaign modes degraded significantly with each installment, Halo CE was the only one with a decent story, the Flood are absolutely ridiculous in 2 and 3, and the multiplayer is so based on luck above all things that it can be downright unplayable and just not fun.
And in Reach in particular theres unbalanced weapons, vehicles and armour abilities, and one can play for ages without really ranking up or getting anywhere.

This is, to some degree, what I personally believe as well.

All I know is Halo CE was awesome. The rest...meeehhhhh.....

Eh, it started a trend I guess. It never really 'evolved', much unlike the namesake.
It's true. I think that's its greatest downfall. All of the subsequent games after Halo: CE have been updated retreadings of the previous entry. Sure, there might have been a feature or two added, weapon power modified, or any number of minute variables altered, but you're essentially paying for the same game and the same experience every time...

Halo was my first FPS so it set my standards. Since I couldn't compare it to any other for me it was the best at the time and I really enjoyed it. Now after having played multiple FPS's and being able to compare them to Halo, yeah I see why some people don't like it. It's not the most brilliantly written, the most original, but it still was great fun to play.

Halo CE is one of the greatest games made...

All the sequels were just generic IMO

halo was the first FPS of a new generation; thats where its popularity comes from. it was a decent FPS, but quite frankly....boring. there really isnt much to it that i cant get in any other FPS. once youve done all the aiming and shooting, whats to be had? no gripping, immersive single player, no crazy fun weapons, no gravity gun, no constant string of macho one-liners; it was all the FPS basics in a contained, next-gen package, and thats it.

When a game gets particular hype and notoriety, those that don't really like it tend to develop more than just apathy towards it. I'm looking at this a as a Halo hater myself.

Genuinely I think the game is ok, but I just cant stand its popularity. Although I try not to express it much since....well....those that do don't necessary need to hear what I think...when asked, expect a lot of criticizing and downgrading on my part....=/

As for what I don't like about the series, well. The story is too simple, MC is idolized to the point that he loses all his cool points in my book (originally I really liked the character until the MC worship killed it for me). The guns feel like toys, and the alien designs look like crappy 90s Saturday morning cgi.

So there.

It was alright. There was certainly plenty of shooty fun to be had.

I appreciate the changes it brought. Regeneration, one-button grenades and melee. Those are all good in my book.

However, the series never got close to the threshold of awesome.

There was and is nothing wrong with the game in my eyes.

The only flaws that i can really see can be the bugs and glitches that occur, but they spice up the game quite nicely, adding that added "wtf?" factor to some games.

Is it on COD that you hear these critques?

I don't like it much because I find vehicular combat in FPS's to be pretty boring, and also I don't like the slow pace it has. However, I find it fun to play with friends.

Halo CE was fantastic but all the sequels were pretty much the same. It got old pretty fast.

The first game was very good.

The design of the covenant aliens and vehicles was well done too.

Everything else I didn't like..especially Cortana.

Oh yeah, and this.

It seems in every Halo game your doing the same thing you've done before in the exact same way you previously have, again and again and again.
All the corridors look the same, all the wide-ish spaces made to give the player the illusion of some degree of freedom all feel the same, all the enemies fight in the exact same way every time, the plots have the same basic setup for each game (except in CE it didn't suck) and all the characters save for Master Chief and Cortana all seem identical, the only difference being that some are wacky scientologist aliens and some are dumbass, easily hateable humans.

Weird thing is it sometimes doesn't seem like this effect is even intended. In a lot of games it just outright hits you that the devs are intentionally coping some aspect of their previous game. In Halo, to me at least, when I played Halo 3, and ODST, and Reach, there was this creeping feeling that I had played the exact same thing a few years before.

I played Halo CE and Halo 2. I didn't like either. I played them because all my friends liked them. Couldn't get into the story, gameplay felt too floaty to me, guns sounded weak, didn't like the characters, AI was dumb, and the campaigns were short(I don't play multiplayer).

I'm one of those people who never understood how the series got so popular. I gave it a go without expecting the Moon or a pile of shit and I got "Meh".
