PS2, for sure.

Basically put, and I still play on it for this reason, it had/has the best selection of RPGs/JRPGs along with the PS1 (back compatibility rocks!).

I had all 3 previous gen consoles. I still occasionally play some gamecube games on my Wii (I just started a replaying of Majora's Mask from the LoZ Compilation disc that came with Mario Kart: Double Dash the other day)... but the Xbox only had a sparse few games that interested me... and no, Halo wasn't one of them :p

You have just committed a terrible gaming sin!

There were four consoles last gen! Fact!

The Sega frikken Dreamcast!

I hate to sound like a Hipster, but I think it was better than all three combined (I do own all four though).

It was the last console made for gamers by gamers, and I think it is the best console ever made.
The Dreamcast is not last gen. It was the same gen as N64 and the Playstation. Or was it? It is hard to remember since the platform horribly failed.
No, it was of the 6th gen not 5th.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_game_consoles_(sixth_generation)

Commercially the Dreamcast did okay, it had the most successful launches of any console up to that time, and it sold a modest 10 million units worldwide. It was the fact that the PS2 was on it's way (which boasted a cheap dvd player, which was one of the main selling points at the time), and coupled with the fact that sega dug itself a financial hole trying to fund the Dreamcast (and recouping the loses from the Saturn). For that reason Sega decided to put the plug on it after two years.

In that short space of time however, it boasted a strong library of games, something that the PS2 didn't have until later into it's life cycle. It also left a legacy of online console gaming, which newer consoles owe a lot to.

To put it short, no the Dreamcast didn't fail, it was cut short, and wasn't used to it's full potential, that I can agree on. Failure should be put on commercial suicides like the Atari Jaguar, Virtual Boy and 3DO which sold terribly, and had no commercial legacy, or merit to them.

I want to say GC because it had Tales of Symphonia and Twilight Princess, but then I think about the PS2 having a ton of RPGs (some of which I own and still have yet to finish) and backwards compatibility.

Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages I guess.
