Poll: What was your first First-Person Shooter?

Since a certain odious person (now condemned to the outer darkness by The Mods, praise their names) raised the question I find myself interested in getting some real answers about the Escapist's audience in a rather more general (and less slanted) poll.

When did you get started playing FPSes? I don't mean the first one you saw, really, but the first one you played for more than an hour or so.

In my case I used to be a die-a-lot-hard Battlezone player in the arcades, pinging away at vectorized tanks and helicopters for quarter after quarter, before migrating to Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 2, and Rise of the Triad. (Never did Decent, though now I regret missing it.) I left the bandwagon for a while due to abject poverty before returning in the early days of console shooters with Halo, and then back-filled a bit by picking up retro-titles as I went.

So what's your story in the FPS genre?

I dont know the gen, but my cousin had some kind of first person Terminator game.

Half Life 2, I think. Before that I mainly played RTSs like Age of Mythology and Impossible Creatures. I only bought Half Life 2 so I could play Garry's Mod. Then I tried it out and...bang. Here we are.

I'm going out on a limb and saying Goldeneye. That's the first I remember anyway.

GoldenEye, definitely. Even today, I'm still playing some levels for fun, like the Cradle.

Mine was that crazy Die Hard game on the PSX, it used a light gun, but it was first person and shooting.

I first played wolfenstein as a child and got scared shitless being starltled by nazis around corners and behind doors. That set a good tone for an FPS. Doom cemented it for me though, because of all the kick-ass early mods online.

I had played a couple shooters beforehand, but the first shooter that really got me into the genre was Halo.

Terminator Future Shock? I had that on the PC and it rocked. Played it so often that I was once riding home from my friend's house and when some guy started his lawnmower I actually thought I heard a terminator. Freaked me the hell out.
