Red or Blue, I forget. I had both of them at some point, not sure which one I got first. Anyway, Charmander. I know he's not as effective as Bulbasaur, but I didn't then, plus he's an adorable lizard that evolves into what is essentially a dragon.
I started out on Red with Charmander. I always pick the fire starters, and I will continue this trend to Black/White.
Now, I don't remember what the first pokemon I caught then was, but when I picked the series back up with Pearl, I caught a Shinx, I think. Those are my favorite pokemon now, so if I could pick I'd use them as a starter .
Pickachu! Pokemon Gold on the gameboy colour; it was fantastic!
I actually found the gameboy in the attic a couple of months ago, and played the game from start to finish on an eight hour car trip. That brought back a lot of memories...
Bulbasaur. I always start with grass pokemon, since the first two gyms are typically Rock and Water, so I can wreck through those two quickly while I build up a balanced team.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I started on Pokemon Blue for the Gameboy. Yeah.
Blastoise from Blue, of course! I mean, I just took a look at each starter's evolved forms and made the obvious choice. What would YOU have chosen: The green komodo dragon with a flower on its back, the generic looking red dragon, or the giant blue Turtle with canons sticking out of its shell?
